If this is targeted at me, as it seems to be, may I ask that you please read my (fairly long) post to the POLL thread? I don't care to explain for a second time, in great detail, that I am in no way anti-religious. But I very much resent being portrayed as arrogant or uncaring because I have strong convictions against supporting an organization that practices blatant, systematic discrimination, or because I let others know the facts....xander wrote:Are people so virulently anti-religious that they can even be blinded to the good things that are done? WTF is this all about? How fkucing arrogant and useless is it to discuss such shit when people are dying?
I have no objection to the idea that some money I give to the Red Cross might be used for relief efforts outside the area affected by Katrina. As long as it's used effectively and to aid people who genuinely need it, it makes no difference to me exactly where each dollar and nickel ends up. People in need aren't restricted to a single geographic region.
I'm not enthusiastic about directing the proceeds of the sale to the musicians' union, as I'd prefer not to narrow the application of any money I might contribute. But if that's the decision of those in charge I could go along with it.
In any case, I deeply respect the work of everyone involved with the KVR CD project, however it goes. I hope to be able in good conscience to participate in the only way I'm able, which will be by buying a copy. If I don't, then the same money will go directly to the Red Cross -- along with ALL of my income for this coming month that doesn't go to paying inescapable bills.
