Shit! Good luck to your wife, kritikon! And to you too!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I'm sure I'm not alone in reading this and projecting myself (and my wife) into your position. I have no idea what you must be going through with this but I hope all works out OK for both of you.

Derek.

Mate, I hope everything to be fine soon, yeah shit happens, I'm having the worst week in my life ever with a very fuckin nasty throat infection, part bacterial, part micotic (half of my head is killing me)...injected antibiotics and all...I don't deserve this to anyone.

My best wishes to you!

Thanks for all your good thoughts. :)

At least I'll get a bit of sleep tonight. Came home as they restarted the sedation to conk her out for the night...it had been weaned off and stopped earlier today - a good sign really, but hard to take seeing her with her eyes rolling in the back of her head and fighting to bite off the ET tube. Last scan showed her brain swollen up pretty bad still - she's probably at least 75% vegetable at the moment, but seems to at least respond to some certain words and her name (could be just wishful thinking on my part though). But if it goes to plan she might be off the ventilator tomorrow or the day after and then it's the long run for her brain to recover and get back slowly to normal...ain't out of the nasty woods yet though for a few days. Pretty well though...if she was going to die, she'd have done it by now (f**king huge sigh of relief).

Trying to take care of myself - taking the vitamins and even eating plenty of veggies with no chips (!) to shore myself up for the long rehab hopefully to come.

(sub-arachnoid, grade II, for anyone who's interested in details)

What the hell is that?
It's a bleed underneath the arachnoid mater...3 layers of tissue surrounding the brain inside the skull. Dura mater next to the skull, pia mater in the middle and arachnoid mater next to the brain (I think I got them the right way around  ). So sub-arachnoid is a bleed contained inbetween the arachnoid and pia maters - not actually inside the brain itself, but it can be just as fatal, although if you recover, you tend not to have permanent damage like strokes etc. Grade I = insignificant to moderate.
Grade II = moderate to severe. Grade III = probably f**ked.

So...it could always be worse, I suppose. She was in theatre for 8 and a half hours :?
Brain now the size of a pumpkin and the skull doesn't exapand unfortunately. :?

But ... it really is looking hopeful - just horrible to watch her. I know she's in there and probably will struggle out of it some time. If she shows enough signs of recovery to get off the ventilator, she's going to be monged for quite a while. Hey ho :(

I definitely can see a distant twinkle of some light at the end of the tunnel now though.

And thanks for the good thoughts. :)
