No, the file doesn't get fixed. MP3s sound bloody awful anyway, don't use them unless you really have to..

MP3 sounds terrible. I can never get over how much gets stripped out: it's like looking at a monochrome reproduction of a Rembrandt painting in a cheap art book.

most people who claim this actually cant make the difference between a good encoded mp3 and a wav (they often dont even know what Lame is, what settings can be made etc)

You forgot to mention that the new monocrhome version can fit in your pocket while you need a crane to pick up the original.
I work on several projects at once so I like to keep a folder with all the songs I'm working on at their current state so I can quickly pick the one I need out, instead of having to open the project itself which takes for ever. Of course for the final version I"d render to wave but all the roughs can be ogg.
