I also had made the experience, that T's timing isn't sample accurate.
In Logic i could bounce a EXS24-track, inverse it, play the EXS again and absolutely silence was the result.
In T this isn't possible.
But the timing is good enough.

Tracktion's timing is perfect.

Course its not possible you muppet, EXS24 won't run in Tracktion. In Logic i could bounce a EXS24-track, inverse it, play the EXS again and absolutely silence was the result.

Also, there WERE some rendering issues in T. I don't have the whole legend and mythology of it memorized, so I can't remember if it was a timing issue. However, the 5 identical renders I have just made have convinced me that T's doing OK.
I just have to be more wary of instruments and effects that aren't synced/locked/whatever you call it in a sample-accurate way.

So, to sum it up, it's normal for rendered file to not be the same on subsequent render because modulation options are not resets. Any other sequencer would spill out the same result.
All I have to do is alter my work habits and make sure I close Tracktion after each render, or bounce VSTI tracks to wave and import those waves file in another edit for mixing.
Thank you.

Yes, it is my understanding that any other sequencer with the same set of virtual instruments will also not produce identical renders each time. Unless I'm wrong about that, it looks like your question and concerns have been answered.
Hope we were helpful.
When it's time to mix, just "save edit as" and name the new edit "mixdown time" and then use the "render and replace" option for tracks that contain modulated instruments or effects. Then it's mixdown time.
rivrock, rendering at 1x won't solve any of the problems discussed in the thread unless I'm missing the point.
Too many disclaimers because I'm feeling shaky about my knowledge today, not being an oscillator guy, synth guy, or MIDI guy-- but assuming I know what I now think I know, 1x will also produce slightly different results each time the track is rendered. The oscillators won't care whether it's 1x or 300x, free running oscillators will still introduce that unpredictable element.

A sensible suggestion, and yes you've all been most helpful, thank you.Lunch Money wrote:Yes, it is my understanding that any other sequencer with the same set of virtual instruments will also not produce identical renders each time. I think that's correct. To produce absolutely identical results each time the DAW would have to kill & re-initialise all plugs before each render.. I don't see why it should bother though, as I would regard it as the plug's duty to offer a sync option if that's relevant. (I would be quite annoyed if it did it without asking me actually, as I might want to render a monosynth a few times to fatten or widen a part.. which would be pointless if every render was identical.)Lunch Money wrote:Yes, it is my understanding that any other sequencer with the same set of virtual instruments will also not produce identical renders each time. In T this isn't possible.
Use any sampler you want. You'll get not complete cancellation -> no sample accurate timing like Logic.

I did the test (again) last night: it cancelled completely.Barbarossa wrote: Use any sampler you want. You'll get not complete cancellation -> not sample accurate timing like Logic.
<edit> using the native sampler btw
