What are the best filters you have heard??

Which ever you want to use. Heck, you can use a SY 77 or 99 too if you want as long as you use the FM part. I'm expecting a .mp3 done on a fm synth in 15 minutes, as that's how long it took for me to do that example (including turning the computer on, starting fl studio and pressing record).

OK, not exactly a DX/TX synthesizer, but another (dual) filter, half manually tweaked, half random sequenced. Sounds different too. DXish even.

Very nice sounding man!! I especially love the extreme noise bursts and the modulation in general. Sounds superb. Now just let your imagination go wild and do some extreme rythmic variations on pure pink-noise (I've tried it with volcano and it's damn fun! )

btw. your example really does sound like something that could be done on a FM synth!

Err.. dunno if it's pleasure to some but your 'waveshaper' is just hurting my ears and gives absolutely NO clue whatsoever about the quality of your filter. Please post a clean version without any distortion, ok? IMHO it's your weakest link in all the demos, get rid of that rather mediocre sounding distortion and let the filter do the talking.

I did not expect, that you find that nice...

It tweaked it just for fun the worst way even possible. There are so many different filter models and shapers on VampireII, so that I have problems to coordinate my choises. (It's a prototype yet.)

DXish: Yes! It uses massive frequency modulation up to the audio rate frequency, which results in white noise of course - making it sounding quite FM alike ... Totally crazy.



If I find the time, I'll post something more of examples. But currently I am very bussy with other projects.

What's also interesting about this one, is that it only has the phase cost of a 6dB filter.

I analyzed your waveform. It is simply distorted by hard clipping. I fear you could reach that result with any filter.

Well, like I've said before, I like extreme settings on filters, not the vanilla 'singing sine wave' boring stuff. Audio rate modulation of parameters is where it all gets interesting!

Btw. check out Timewarp's ARP2600 (or wait for a non-PACE demo). It can do some extremely nice audio rate modulations of, well, nearly anything!

I'm looking forward for more examples!

Wat is an audiorate novadays? Has it something to do with "samplerate" ? (Obvuiously not. You cannot modulate the sampling rate for some reasons yet. Hopefully.)

And how can audio have a "rate" at all? How big is it? And how to f u c k do I modulate that ominuous rate ten ???

It's a convenient way of saying modulation with a frequency range above 20Hz (or 15Hz at the extreme), the term 'audio' here representing frequencies that are audible to the human ear.

As opposed to being restricted to low-frequency modulation, i.e. sub-audible frequencies.

Exactly. Not a buzzword at all, just a word that contains the neccessary information within itself. AFAIK it's been used in synthesis vocabulary since the 50's? Why is suddenly all words that some people don't understand "buzzwords"?
