So I take it most of you have sprung for XXL? Do you feel the extras are worth it?

Post

I use FL and Tracktion together (rewired). To me, that's a unstoppable combo for it's combined price.
I also use Sonar 4 and more VSTs/DXis than you can fit in a Vegas buffet.

But as it relates to FL, get it as a starter.
I still use it to this day with Tracktion (I use in conjunction with Sonar when I have more time to deal with).

I have the Producer edition. As good as they are, I don't want the extras.

I have EnergyXt and Tracktion 2 now. Is there anything that FL Studio, probably at the Producer Edition level now, can offer me that these hosts can't? I do have some background in pattern-based music production, so I get that portion of what FL offers.

Hi! Brian,

you missed out a host to try

Project 5

And Dimension is one kick arse powerful sample tool imo.

Another host you could try that you should try - Sonar

But project 5 is the mutts nutts of todays hosts for simplicity and power.

Best regards,

Yep! I was a die hard FL Studio user – till I moved to more cpu’s in the same box (Intel ones)

Gosh! That post is almost blasphemous

Same here, though I did buy some of the extras.

I got the demo version of Project 5 - the midi editing didn't seem that powerful. FL Studio seemed to be more usable.

what they trickily did with the xxl is reserve the mixer channel rerouting, which i couldnt do without.

However, Im a fucktard and didnt by the free updates for an extra $20 when I bought it, so im stuck with 4.5.1 anyway, so it would take a good penny to get to xxl.

i have heard not so good things about project 5...

but as far as FL, I just have producer edition and sytrus...

all i needed really, i love the modular approach...

already got free upgrades ;)

From my limited time of playing with Sytrus, it's a great synth. But if I buy producer+Sytrus, then it ends up costing more than just buying the XXL edition.

That said, I still don't really think I would need Sytrus, since I've got so many other softsynths to play with. I'll agree that it's got a great sound. I just wish it wasn't quite so pricey.

If I did get XXL, I'd probably have to wait a couple of months to put aside the extra cash. Not like I don't have enough to play with already, but a consideration.

I am satisfied with producer - and in fact, since I'm using Sonar and P5V2 more, were I doing it over again, I'd stick with FruityLoops edition. The mixer and the audio recording are the advantages to the Producer edition.

Some of the synths in XXL are better than others, but there's also good alternatives - for example, I prefer Rhino to Sytrus - bigger GUI, additional free and commercial soundsets, etc. and sfz/sfz+ walks all over Fruity Soundfont Player (most of the time, anyway - some soundfonts are reported to play better in it than sfz).
