bManic awesome samples right there. I choose the Sonalksis personally but Blockfish is very impressive also. Aleksey also thanks for posting the new sample ... it does sound a lot better! I must admit that I love how the sonalksis crushed them so hard and it still could crush more ! lol It definitely has a different quality than crunchessor but that could be considered a good / bad thing under particular situations.
bManic demonstrated my problem with Crunchessor very well in his samples .. notice how the crunchessor sample you posted has that clicking quality, even though you can't even hear the compressor working all that much. That is what confused me about Crunchessor initially.
What samples are used on those drums ??? They sound amazing !!!!!
But as you said, it does look like crunchessor is a specialist compressor rather than a track compressor. It works well on some things but not on others. I am definitely ready to buy Sonalksis right now lol ... I compared it to UAD-1 compressors (using the samples on the site) and could easily produce a very similar sound to the LA-2A, 1176 and Fairchild. The EQ also reminds me very much of the Oxford, it was almost impossible to notice the difference when comparing the same settings. While comparing the LA-2A on a vocal sample, I also tried the VoxFormer, and I must say ... I was EXTREMELY impressed. The voxformer sounded better to my ears than the LA-2A ... is that possible ?? lol IT added this very soft quality to the voice, like a subtle character that was so awesome !!
As for the Crunchessor, I think it's now a matter of seeing what becomes of it over time. This new mode that Aleksey is implementing will definitely make it was more useable for me.
Aleksey the reason I didn't want to use Polysquasher for bus compression is due to the latency ... I think it was in the thousands of samples or something ? So for real-time stuff, I don't think it would be suitable for me.
Can anyone recommend a good track limiter (not mix limiter) ? i.e. one with little latency ? I have so far seen the Buzzcomp Maxi3 (free and sounds nice, bad interface though) and Kjaerhus GPP. Any other good ones ?
Keep up the great work Aleksey, I can't wait to hear the updated crunchessor.
Cheers
