EDIT: this thread is becoming seriously dangerous to my financial situtation. Now that dream of owning a couple of UAD-1 cards came flooding back at me! Aaarrrgghhh!

Oh my, both the LA2A and 1176 samples sound VERY good!!! I've been resisting UAD-1 because I've sworn off PCI cards, but ..... ummmmmm .......

Ok, thanks! I've downloaded the wav-file, maybe I can replace the clips later this evening.

I'd love to hear how the LA-2A sounds when it is truly slammed hard. Extreme examples in general are where the native compressors seem to fail.

If you happen to have the Fairchild then I'd be very interested in hearing that too, smashed.

Just had to tweak compadre a bit more. It's huge fun! I now got a quite extreme setting that seems to swing a bit with the groove. Check it out!

I remade my samples, working with the wav-file this time.

Changed ratio from 12:1 to 8:1 on 1176 LN to compensate for increased input gain (to smash it harder).

Also added a sample from TLs Saturated driver.

I ran a little test on how compressors behave when oversampled. Here are two examples, I'll tell later which is which. To my ears it's quite clear how much the Sonalksis Compressor benefits from x4 oversampling (bounced at 192kHz, r8brain downsampled to 44,1kHz) during heavy compression but decide for yourself.

Yes, it's quite heavily smashed that one. Even too much for my own personal taste

I prefer sample A. There's more punch on the kick drum and the pumping cymbals are less annoying.

But I really can't tell if it's an effect of upsampling or not...

All about Compressors
