i use midi a lot, and i really don't see what the fuss is about. i think the refinements to the editor help a treat, and i have no problems with it whatsoever.
well, i'd like for it to not default to the pen tool when i open up a midi clip... other than that, i think it's splendid.

compared with some other piano rolls out there (fruity loops, enrgy xt...) it's not that good.
why haven't jules simply copied the behavior of the best piano rolls out there ?

For my limited use (recording my crappy playing and then fixing and rearranging simple chords, melodies, or drum/sample hits) it's fine. But then, I suppose, I don't know what I'm missing.

My biggest gripe with the midi roll editor is the fact that scrolling with the mouse wheel changes the resolution. I'd REALLY like an option of locking the current resolution for the midi clips only, and using the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the note grid (ie making the note blocks larger). I'd be glad to live with scroll bars in the midi editor if this feature was implemented.
And I'd also like for the midi toolbar to be "in" the track you are editing, instead of an overlay over the above track. Not really sure how to explain this.

One bug that gets my panties all in bunches is that when deleting clips, a lot of times it will collapse a clip that has been vertically expanded, for no reason. This is off and on but frequent. It does it on audio tracks too, but it is a particular pain on piano roll tracks because they are always vertically expanded while working with them. I have 2.0.13, is that the latest version?
Here's a question which hopefully has an easy answer: is there a way to change tempo in the overall edit without the piano roll notes changing position (i.e. the bars change position to match the new temp but the notes stay where you originally put them)? I use that feature a lot, but there are times when I want to turn it off, namely when I accidentally recorded to a drum track and the temo setting in the edit was wrong, so the bars in the piano roll don't actually match with the note positions. I want a way to change the position of the bars to put them at the correct tempo, but not have that screw up the original positioning of my notes, which were done at the right tempo.

"timecode" -> "re-map clip positions when tempo is changed"
That what you are looking for?

Not sure, but thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to get on it and see if it works. Thanks!IIRs wrote:"timecode" -> "re-map clip positions when tempo is changed"

BTW, I still haven't opened GS3 and tried the second plug you gave me to see if it will send notes off when I stop the piano roll transport. Not for any reason than probably just fear.IIRs wrote:"timecode" -> "re-map clip positions when tempo is changed"

Things are going well with synthesizers for me at the moment so wrangling with the GS3 beast (and it definitely can be one) has been pretty low on my agenda, but I will force myself to go back to it soon, since I want to give you/RMS/Mackie some more feedback on the issue.
Thanks again,
Dave

You can re-adjust the clip to make it fit the tempo by dragging to end of the clip while holding either shift, ctrl or alt. I forget which one.Frippertronix wrote:One bug that gets my panties all in bunches is that when deleting clips, a lot of times it will collapse a clip that has been vertically expanded, for no reason. ALT is the 'stretch' key for dragging the edges of clips. (midi or audio - with audio it will stretch the sample rate too, pitching it up or down, unless you have one of the timestretch algos selected).
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
