T2 <--> Mackie HDR synchronization

I have a Mackie HDR24/96 which has always worked flawlessly. At the beginning of the summer, I bought Mackie Tracktion 2, along with the Emu Emulator X which includes the excellent 1820M interface hardware and software and also has Cubase VST5.1 bundled with it. I *still* have been unable to use Tracktion 2 to record a single song yet, which is very frustrating to say the least. :cry:

Here is what has happened in my studio so far:

Tracktion 2 by itself without the HDR hooked up in any way and using the Emu 1820M as the audio and MIDI interface for the computer: This works. I can record audio tracks and I can record MIDI tracks. With T2 acting as the master, the audio and MIDI tracks are roughly in sync with each other, and I get no crackles or popping.

Tracktion 2 connected to the HDR via the 1820M with the T2 as the Master and the HDR as the Slave: This is very iffy. The HDR keeps dropping in and out of sync. Doesn't matter whether I use MTC or SMPTE. The HDR won't sustain sync throughout a 4 minute song.

Tracktion 2 connected to the HDR via the 1820M with the HDR as the Master and T2 as the Slave: This is horrible. Does not work reliably at all especially for MIDI recording. The MIDI that actually gets recorded onto T2 has tons of wrong notes (that I did not play!!!) from all over the keyboard. And the MIDI notes have no sync at all with the audio that is already on T2 and the HDR, even though I listened to that audio as I played the MIDI notes I wanted to record.

You might say, well something is hosed with your computer or perhaps the 1820M does not function properly. Well, if I fire up the bundled Cubase VST5.1 on that same computer, connect it to the same HDR via the same Emu 1820M, I get rock solid synchronization between Cubase and the HDR. Everything is the same as above excpet I launch Cubase instead of launching Tracktion 2!! I hooked it up with Cubase as the Master and the HDR as the Slave, and the HDR is locked solid and the sync never drops out. I can record audio to Cubase through the 1820M and it sounds great- in perfect sync and no pops/crackles. I can record MIDI to Cubase through the 1820M, and there are no wrong extraneous notes. The recorded MIDI notes are also always in the same place with respect to the audio that I monitored (although the MIDI data does appear 1.06 seconds in front of the spot where they *should* be in relation to the audio- I haven't figgered that one out yet). But at least the correct MIDI data is there (not a ton of other notes I didn't play which is what happens on T2 MIDI recording in this mode) *and* the HDR is locked solid to the Cubase timeline.

So, anybody gots any ideas on what is wrong with Tracktion 2 here? Or the Tracktion 2 operator (me!)?? I actually like Tracktion 2. Seems very intuitive and straightforward. I did buy a Firedock last week so that I can xfer HDR files to Tracktion 2 and perform post processing on them (have not had a chance to try this out yet- hopefully it works). It would be sad though if that is the only way I can use T2 with the HDR. :(
