Hm, guess you have to really *know* the thing to make it sound like this. Seems as if mastering a bad sound is an art as well.

I amend my statement; they are the easiest to grasp and operate that I've seen.

They are the best I've heard.

Go get it and try the preset "leading edge" and play with the modwheel.

Of course,

you're probably going to think its crap, but I like it.

I love the EMU filters for snarling bass stuff.. Really throaty, filthy destructive sound.. More interesting than your standard low pass with resonance which you hear everywhere..

Which EMU filters are you talking about? There are quite some dozens.

my emu 6400 has the best sounding digital filters i ever heard. so smooth and flattering...

the sherman filterbank is also great, but more on the dirty side.

as for software, i have yet to find a killer filter, though recently i have been impressed by the camelPHAT3 filters!

i don't like the EXS24, kontakt, reaktor filters

what is the best hardware filter you've ever used which comes to the specifications you desire? ^_^

what, you've never used one?

what makes you think any filter exists which meets your criteria?

using the word "software" or "digital" here doesnt really say much in such case, does it?

with that much said, personally i dont believe any peice of equipment will automatically make everything you do sound great. although very good equipment does kind of exponentiate your results. 1<^anything is still going to be 1<, infact usingf equipment beyond your level of skill may have the effect of making you sound worse, is what i mean.

i prefer a 'perfect' filter, which i have yet to ever hear. my software comes close with the recent advancements i've made.. but unfortunately such a thing isnt really possible :/

i suppose its time to upgrade to 96k and better than a 450mhz katmai?

i'd rather have some kind of skill in making music than a great filter :P

I always maintain that best is a concept that doesn't apply to music. If someone insisted I make music with some big load of poo, then damn it I'd make music with it. It is a pleasure and honour to be able to do so, it's all just extra reward to be able to do so with fine quality equipment. We really do fill most of our time with our heads up our arses, don't we?
