Alouf wrote:I never got a good sound with either GuitarRig demo or Amplitube demo. They both sound fake. I am using a Yamaha MG10/2 mixer as input for my guitar.

The only useable distortion I got was with GreenMachine II.
I'll check out the GreenMachine at some point just out of curiosity.

Obviously a "good distortion" IS still subjective. But, I think a lot of people who have not liked amp simulation and modeled effects before may become believers when they hear AT2. Of course the many thousands that really love AmpliTube 1 will be floored with AT2 without a doubt.

I have been asked by several people about modification to the ART pre amp so I post my answer here to Alouf as an answer to other people as well:
Hi Alouf

OK I must say this right up front, I studied electrical engineering in college and I also used to own a TV repair shop for 10 years so I can do these things and I must add it wasn't the easiest thing in the world.
If you do not have any experience in electronics you most likely won't be able to make any modifications to the circuitry.

If you think you are up to it you can just e-mail their tech support and ask for the circuit schematics.
They e-mailed it to me free of charge.
I basically took the mic variable impedance load control and turned into "tube drive".
Then I have a bypass switch that sets the op-amp input stage to 1:1 amplification leaving the tube drive to do all the work.
If you are up to it and have the schematics in hand I will be more then happy to tell you the exact components changed.

There is one big flaw in the design of this unit and you can probably fix it even if you do not have that much knowledge in electronics.
The problem is that they put the power switch right next to CH1 input.
This is a 120Vac power line running right next to the mic input (what were they thinking?).
If you buy the unit you can confirm this by comparing CH1 to CH2.
CH1 will always be more noisy.
So just relocate that switch to the back or simply eliminate it.
What ever you do, you have to make sure no AC lines are running next to the input stage.

i don't know what's the point with greenmachineII,amplitube1 and g.rig distortions are much better.
gmII is bad SE creation.

I guess what Squids said is true. Distortions are subjectif. I personally hate Amplitube and Grig distortions. I sounds muffled and unprecise. GreenMachine on the other hand...it is much better, but not perfect. Btw DC12, your the first one that I read who dont like GMII.

AndrewSimon, thanks for sharing the information.

Hey Squids, do you have an A/B samples with Amplitube 2 and some of the physicall stomps or amps you have in your possession and that Amp2 models uses?

Post

Will Amplitube 2 have a foot controller? It's hard to use a mouse and play guitar at the same time.
But looks cool if you can pull it off.
Riley :hihi:

eyeknow what you mean.

Thanks guys. :D

Speaking of A/B comparisons, at NAMM there was an A/B comparison with the Ampeg SVX B15 and a real one side by side and people could not tell the difference. That was pretty cool. It was in both Ampeg's booth and the IK booth.

I want it........and I want it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STOP THE INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want it NOW! Where is it?! I hope at least before next year :(

It will be. Anyone who can should go to the IK booth at AES for some demonstrations first-hand plus... well... just go if you can! ;)
