If you can't respect me because of my elitist attitude, go to gearslutz (or similar) and see what the engineers and producers of your favourite bands have to say on the subject. If you don't want to believe me, there must be someone you can trust.
There are people I can trust. And most of them hate digital technology as a whole. All of my favorite recordings were done to tape. ALL of them.

So where does that get me?

But a question, herodotus:

Would it bother you to discover that one of your favourite recordings was done on digital?

:D

Here's an example:

I absolutely LOVE Brothers In Arms. Some people think it's a shite album, but once you've pressed the skip button past "Money For Nothing", there are some other brilliant songs on there.

The thing is, to me, Brothers in Arms is a perfect example of why NOT to use digital. The recording itself is... well... I don't like it. Now, that's kind of a moot point because digital recording has come so far since then, but the fact remains that it's digital and I don't like the way it sounds.

But it's a GREAT album IMO, and I listen to it lots.

So it's really all about the songs and nothing about the technique and tools, after all. :D

God no!!!!

My only point (assuming I had a point, which is doubtful :hihi:) is that audio snobbery, carried to extremes, brings you to a point of absurdity very quickly.

The height of it can be seen in remarks like one I saw recently where the engineer was talking about the musician being 'the enemy' because they don't know what sounds good and consequently are always forcing engineers to make shitty sounding records.

In sum, statements like: "This audio tool does this", and "This sound is made with this tool" are statements of fact. There may be lots of argument about it, but at bottom, they are about factual matters.

Expert knowledge will give you an edge in arguments about these matters.

Statements like "This sounds good" and "This sounds bad" are matters of opinion. There is no fact of the matter to settle arguments about these things, because they aren't facts. Expert knowledge will only appear to give you an edge in arguments about these things.

Thats all.

Well, that all sounds bloody reasonable. ;) Shame on you. But it wasn't fair of you to dis the 90's! :x

What's that? Wasn't you?

For the record, Kingston and bManic have both been in touch and at least Kingston is still interested in giving it a shot; however, as mentioned earlier in this thread it might take a bit of time as he's travelling abroad and sorting things out for the next little while. Don't mistake the lengthy delay for 'squeezing more time' into working on it, though-- if he's lucky, he'll have a few hours to work on it in a few weeks. <chuckle> But it'll come around, I've no doubt.
