PPM, best use?

Uh, what is this new PPM thing for? If it is for measurements, how does a box and needle graphic help with (not accuracy) precision. There is a bunch of space between numbers.

Ok besides that, really what is this most useful for?

PPMulator's actually a VST software emulation of the standard type of meters to be found in every professional film and TV sound studio and editing room, pretty much anywhere in the world.

Not many music studios use PPM meters, but if you're doing sound-for-picture, or mixing music for film or TV, then you'll be using a set of calibrated PPMs - there's really no alternative.

...ahhh, now then PT, that's the whole point!

PPM meters have a carefully-specified integration and fallback time (kind of 'attack' and 'decay' times) and behave in a way which cannot be replicated on Tracktion's meters (or Nuendo's, or ProTools' or anyone's, really).

It's this different behaviour which was the reason to design PPMulator in the first place. It's not 'better' or 'more accurate' than Tracktion or Inspector's meters (in fact, it's less accurate) but - and this is the point - it's the same as everyone else's PPM meters who is doing sound for post-production.

So that's how you know your mix will be at the right level for film or TV - you just can't tell from a VU, RMS or full-scale digital peak meter.
