Most beautiful: "A remark you made", Weather Report. Jaco Pastorius on fretless.

Most impressive: Jaco Pastorius playing "Donna Lee".

And lots of others ...
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.

That's the first bass line that came to my mind. I always thought it was a beautiful one. I saw him play live not long before he died. :(

He was greatness personified.

I think Jaco Pistorius got many votes up to now, but I have to put in another one for him. First time when I heard Joni Mitchell's Mingus I was blow over with the bass. Not only one song, but the whole album was amazing.

Ug - Mr Scruff.

right now two tracks come to my mind:

- another one bites the dust

- Mick Jagger's sweet thing (played by Doug Wimbish)

Post

Almost anything by Colin Hodgkinson, John Entwistle and - e.g. - bass lines like the ones on

Son Of A Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield
I've Gotta Get A Message To You - BeeGees
Reach Out I'll Be There - Four Tops
Love Child - Supremes .. . etc.

Tommy
Some music here

Reach Out, Love Child... you're talking James Jamerson here. Almost all the old Motown stuff featured James on bass. A true monster :hail:
I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned any of the Stax stuff like "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"- Duck Dunn's another monster.
Then, there's the Meters... :-o
