^^thats just a badass song in general

Personally i think that "Breakbeat Era - Breakbeat Era" has the best bass guitar part in the history of man to the point where if you havent heard it you should try to immediately

yes! + the white album..."dear prudence" is my fav on that one
"everybody's got something to hide..." :)
I knew I was forgetting something - the White Album
I'll confess, the bass on my tune distant shores was a direct rip-off from Paul. (a few other Beatle influences in that one as well)

nothing in that post was worded well...yer breakin' my balls!

for example i could answer:

"how do you know? maybe Stanley Clark only has 3 favorite bass players and someone else took Paul's slot..."

or:

"i meant Paul was good in the Beatles....."

uhhh...i'm boring myself....

Dave Holland Quintet - Prime Directive (Dave Holland's the bassist, for those that don't know). The CD version is excellent, but it's truly incredible when performed live. The cut from Extended Play shows a little of this, but the gig I went to last year where they played it was even better, at least for the bass line.

Global Citizen, Free For All, Lost And Found, The Balance, and Metamorphos are other bass line favorites of mine from Holland.

Try to imagine "Rain" without that bass line.

Bah. Plectrum bass is for sissies! Or for the dudes that didn't manage to get the real 6-string deal right and were forced to play bass in their high school bands instead.

Marcus Miller's bass line on Tom Browne's "Funkin' for Jamaica." Bernie Worrell's synth line on "Flashlight" has already been mentioned. But let us not forget his equally brilliant playing on "Knee Deep." And then there's Herbie Hancock's synth bass on "Butterfly" (remake) from his "Dis is da Drum." Also, ROn Carter's bass on Miles Davis "Footsteps."

Oh! I forgot Lou Barlow's stuff on Dinosaur Jr.'s Bug.

Carl Craig's Televised Green Smoke has a very, very nice bassline, too.

John played that part with his fingers, sure he did use a pick on some tracks but that was fingers m8.

Off the top of my head: Ed Rush & Fierce 'Locust', the distorted Reese and then the drop to the sub. Awesome! :D

Oh, then pretty much anything by The Pixies, which reminds of The Breeders' 'Cannonball'.
