I've looked around on the forum, but could not quite find an answer to my scenario.
I've just installed Tracktion 2.0.1.13. It is running on a MAC G5 Dual 2.0, 2.5GB RAM, OSX 10.4., and well over 100gb of HD space
I'm using the Onyx 1220 with Firewire option. I've imported 39 tracks of 24bit, 48k sound files into a single project/edit. When I turn on more than approximately 20-22 tracks, the audio starts dropping out.
I've adjusted latency to be anywhere from min to max samples without any effect. No other applications are running.
I've double-checked to make sure the Firewire drivers are also set to 24bit/48khz configuration. I've dumped the same files into a demo LIVE 4.0 software and it worked perfect. Anyone have any status on this type of problem?
I've noticed that there has been issues in the past with OSX, track limitation, and such. I hope that they are resolved quickly before I choose another application. Tracktion is too cool of the program to let it slip by, due to this type of error.

I find it interesting that no one has responded to this posting. I did get a little help from Mackie, but actually found out by accident that I had to push the caching to the max to get it to work. I mean maxed!!! Anything less does not work.
My concern is, what happens when I have to add more tracks, and/or DSPs? Is there a threshold looming in the near future? Why would Tracktion 2 have problems with 24+ tracks on my G5, yet the Ableton Live demo handled all 39 tracks without a skip, bump, or crackle. Mackie could not answer or suggest anything.
Bottom line. I'm running Tracktion 2.0, with the Onyx Firewire and 1220 mixer, on a brand new MAC G5, dual 2.0Ghz, 2.5Gb RAM, 160GB S-ATA hard drive (w/ 145GB free space). Why can't Tracktion 2.0, on a G5 Dual and a ton of RAM, handle the same tracks that run fine on AMD 64 3200+ eMachine, 1GB RAM, using a M-Audio Sonica USB audio interface? I don't seem to have an answer or any insight being offered.
So maybe I'll consider Live 5.0 or go back to DP4.
Believe me, working with Tracktion is too cool and a great concept. But if I can't make it work for me, then there are other that I know will work.

Or how bout dropping the Mac altogether and get a real DAW AMD X2 dual head PC and Sonar 4 combo, Ive never had any of the problems ppl have been faceing with Traction.

cyrral - sorry from all of us, we were busy arguing in another thread...
Anyway, I've got exactly the same problems - the cache setting DOES improve things slightly, but still nowhere near perfect. This is also making me reconsider my DAW options... although I'm having so much FUN here!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. At least there is someone out there that might have a similar issue. I did get a response on the Mackie forum from Don Lee, but he thought that I had fixed the problem. Yes, I did find a way to "fix" the problem, but what about a threshold or capacity? It seems, if I max out my caching without even adding any DSP or softsynths, are my options then limited, or potentially disasterous? I didn't know, and I still don't know.
To those who want me to get a real DAW. I've switched from a Sony Vaio P4 w/HT 3.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, running Sonar Producer 4.0. It's a great system, and runs excellent (most of the time).... but I've had to replace the hard drive in less than 6 months. It constantly has to be defragged, something you don't have to deal with on the MAC.
I've owned several MAC and PC through the years, doing all levels of audio/MIDI production. As much as I know the PC platform can work for many, many people, it did not quite meet my needs on a consistant basis. The MAC has always performed excellent and efficiently, except for my current run-ins with Tracktion.
I hope that Mackie can at least give me some pointers on why Tracktion is acting the way it is. Either acknowledgement of a correctable problem, or just tell what I need to do to correct it. Or, even tell me it's a fluke with my computer only. If not, then I'll look at Live 5.0 or DP4 or something.

DP and/or Live will certainly rock on your system.
I run both of them on my 1GHZ Ti, they perform pretty well, but especially for DP, a G5 is muuuch better.

Tracktion 2.0 on eMachine 64 beats a Dual 2.0 G5? Wazzup wit dat!!???
Just as a note.
I loaded Tracktion 2.0 on my $500 eMachine (AMD 64 3200+). It was able to handle all 39 tracks with just a moderate increase in the caching.
Still no answer to why I'm having this issue on OSX, or whether my G5 might be the problem, or suggestions on what to look for within my configuration, or Mackie is not admitting to an OSX problem that needs to be fixed, just silence........

Hi Cyrral - I have been using T2 on a dual G5 without troubles. I don't know that I've tried that many audio tracks, and I only updated to 2.0.13 and 10.4 this week. I'll test it today though. and let you know...
FWIW I have gotten better performance from T2 than DP or Live on my system in the past.

That's good to hear. I would be interested in your outcome. You see, I've only started using Tracktion with the latest 2.0.13 version and OSX 10.4.2.
Granted, it's not that often that I work with 39 - 24bit/48khz tracks, but I thought that Tracktion would be able to handle that without much problem. Considering the low overhead within the application, I would expect it to handle 60 to 80 tracks without a hitch. Typically, most of my projects are a blend of audio and MIDI, with 14 to 18 audio tracks being the usual. But when I need the extra capacity, I need to make sure the software will handle it. After all, Tracktion seemed to work fine on a smaller PC configuration.
With a MAC G5 Dual 2.0, with 2.5Gb RAM, 160Gb S-ATA drive, with nothing but OSX 10.4.2, and the basic software that came with the unit, I would think that it would scream..... I'm going to install a dedicated audio HD by the end of the week. I'll post my findings after that.
In the mean time, I'm going to reload Digital Performer, so I can finish this project. After that is when I'll have some time to work with Tracktion, and hopefully get things figured out. (I'll also post the results when the time gets here) Maybe Mackie will release an upgrade and solve all my problems...

Just a note to let you know that it looks like the hi-hat track was corrupted.(not critical) When I removed it from the mix, everything became stable, and I was able to reduce the caching to 128mb.
I've also installed a MaxLine III, 250GB, S-ATA drive as a dedicated audio drive. This should also help in the throughput of audio.
Sorry for sounding so frustrated with Tracktion 2.0. I think the program is an excellent product and should be able to handle everything I need it to. It was just aggravating to have this anomoly putting a thorn in my side.
