5G and Joe Frazier performed by Bruford's band with Jeff Berlin playing;
Heartbeat by King Crimson. This is a superb line - understated, but adds everything to the track; it just wouldn't be the same with anything else (truism duly noted!)

I like the bit in Close to the Edge by Yes when there are those off beats during the second chunk of 'verse'

:)

O yeah, heard 'Call me Al' this morning, and that has to have one of the happiest basslines ever, and probably the best known bass solo outside of 'I'm not in Love'

I posted b4 reading the thread (thank goodness for the printable version view!)

Must agree with Meffy and Ja.x amongst others for 'Heart of the Sunrise -- Yes' and 'Mike Oldfield-Charleston (Platinum Part III)' And someone mentioned 'Relax - Frankie Goes To Hollywood', Tho' I think I prefer 'Two Tribes'.

Oh, yes, and 'Parallels' and 'Tempus Fugit' are quite remarkable as well..

Don't have time to read the whole thread now, but I have to second:
Primus - My name is mud
Breeders - Cannonball
Mr Scruff - Ug

and add (at least I haven't seen them so far in the thread):
MARRS - Pump up the volume
Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag
Shootyz Groove - Other Side
GMS - Zombi Stomp
lots of stuff by Luke Vibert aka Wagon Christ (Controlling Transmission, I hear the drummer, Kwikwidetrax, etc.)
Ok, I'll leave it at that for now ;)

Oh, one more: Deee Lite - Groove is in the heart!

Cheers, Jo

i love berlin and all but you're kidding, right?

by the way, did you see then on the bands reunited - it was great. berlin kicks ass
Kidding why do you think that I am kidding, I think to me it has the best bass part of all songs i know ("You take my breath away", If that is what the song is called.) Though I know no other songs by Berlin. So the reuniting of the group passed me by.

The reprise from "Going for the One" by Yes.

Did anyone mention-

Madonna - Get Into The Groove

Depending on which version of this track you hear, there is a nice bit either in the intro or (less clearly) under the chorus thing.

I feel ya!! :D That whole album is packed full of great basslines.
U2 : With or Without You (as basic as basic can be!)
A good example of spaciousness and not being overzealous with your instrument, no doubt.
Massive Attack : Angel (low!)
Great song! :D
Antonio Jobim : The Girl from Ipanema (relaxing!)
One of my favorite songs of all time!!!!
The bass isn't particularly moving in this piece, I would recommend a listen to a couple Elis Regina tracks: Canto de Ossanha and Andanca!!!
Anti-aliasing is for "synthmonk%ys".

(Especially) The beginning bass notes to "Conference of the Birds" by the Dave Holland Quartet...

I began this thread, so let me add a few more I really like.
Alright Now - Free
Train Kept a Rollin' by the Yardbirds. Give it a listen and see what I mean.
Radio Radio by Elvis Costello
All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix (Probably Jimi himself on bass here)
There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres. Pythagoras
