FR: Third option on hiding the filters

OK we can already press the little button at the top to toggle whether we want to see the filters or not. But what about a third option, whereby the all the filters/plugins dissappear except for the track volume/pan and metering.

That way all the extra filters are tidied out of sight, and you can then mix with a consistent width and placement of the volume/pan sliders across all tracks.

Pressing the button would toggle between all three states.

The problem I see with this is that there is nothing special about the volume/pan filter and the level meter filter. Suppose you've got two vol/pan filters in one track. Which one should be shown or hidden? This isn't an uncommon scenario, since using one filter for automation and another for overall gain is an extremely useful technique in Tracktion. Also, since they can be removed, what should be displayed if one or both of those two default filters is removed?

  :hihi: That is going to make my life so much easier! How annoying that I haven't thought of this myself!? Fantastic. Thanks! :D

Funny...I was just about to suggest the same idea, but Synthbuilder beat me to it. If several vol/pan filters exist we could keep the rightmost one, or maybe keep all of them. Another alternative is to only show the mute- solo-button for each track.

Anyway, at the moment I think the toggle-button hides too much.

hmmm... As soon as I'm done tracking, I delete the meter filters. :)

I like seeing activity, too. ;)

Besides, it would just be an option. I agree, and there are all kinds of creative ways this could be done, regardless of number of vol/pan filters.

The simplest would be, as already suggested, keeping whatever the right-most one is. In the event that you don't HAVE a vol/pan filter, too bad-- Tracktion puts one there at unity/centre pan. (which won't affect the sound of the track because it's not modifying anything).

Optionally, combine this idea with "big input meters" coded to become "big output meters" and you have your "mixer" that some people want. <laff>
