clipboard and closing edits

Ok, I might be stupid but here goes:
In the clipboard manager it shows one item, if I select another item and choose clipboard/copy it replaces the excisting item in clipboard instead of creating another one.... How to get by this?
Ok, how do you close an edit without closing the entire program?
Cheers

You can't close just an edit.
It's a minimalist approach, and I DO go for the "close edit" button sometimes only to remember that there ISN'T one. But at the end of the day I guess it makes no more or less sense than having one. The assumption seems to be that if you want to close this edit in order to open another one. But unlike Word or similar programs, you can only have one edit opened at a time anyhow, so if you want to open a new edit, you don't NEED to close this one first. It does it automatically.
If, on the other hand, you AREN'T opening another edit, then the assumption is that you must be done working and have no further use for Tracktion to be loaded, period.
Not saying I necessarily agree... like I said, I reach for the "close edit" button sometimes, too... but I do think I can see what's being driven at.

Regarding the clipboard... I dunno! I had to check into this first since within the edit I usually only copy and paste one thing at a time, but... well, I'm stymied.
In the Projects page, the clipboard becomes more useful because you can drag a bunch of different things into it. And then when you switch to your edit, you can show the clipboard and drag them off the clipboard into your edit.
It's a useful tool for going between the project and edit pages, but I'm not sure why you can't just build up intems into your clipboard in the edit. Perhaps the assumption is that since you're already in the edit, you can just copy and paste things one at a time?
What is it that you want multiple clipboard entries for? I don't mean that in a snarky way, just in a curious way because somebody might have a different way of accomplishing what you're hoping to achieve.

clipboard ...
... AFAIK (caveat - i dont use the clipboard THAT much) the only way to have more than one item on the clipboard is to select and copy multiple items from the project or edit pages ... you CAN then select individual items to paste in ...
... but youre right ... if you then copy another item it will replace the current clipboard contents rather than add to them ...
... i would hope that a future version of T2 / T3 addresses this with a more sophisticated clipboard management system ...

Aah, didn't know you could drag and drop in the clipboard. That solved my problem, thnx:)
I know what you mean about the close edit thingy. But somtimes I don't want to close Tracktion, but want to close the edit so it won't hog my cpu and ram, I have lots of plugs so it takes some time to load T2 again.. It would be very useful with a close edit button for this purpose, otherwise it's ok...

(cross-posting agogo !!! )
yeah ... sounds good ... that way you could collect stuff from multiple edits to compile into a new one ...
(assuming - might have to test this now - T2 doesnt empty the clipboard if you switch edits / projects)

YIKES!
Disable "scan plug-ins on startup" immediately!! Who has the time to wait for that EACH time? One-time full scan with "scan new or changed" is all that should be required.
Glad your clipboard problem was solved.
Regarding the close edit: It's true that it'll hog your RAM, though it shouldn't hog your CPU if you disable all your inputs. A well-coded plug-in will not use any CPU until it's been given a signal, which means either pressing "play" or having an active input device.
The RAM, though, there's not much that can be done about that... and it's exactly the same reason I occasionally reach for the "close edit" button.
However, when you've disabled your 'scan with each launch' (whatever it's officially called), Tracktion itself takes only a few seconds to load up. Wheeeee!

heh ... i used to have the scan run on every startup too ...
... once you break the habit and get into just manually running a scan if you change something it becomes second nature ...
(and avoids that loooooong wait each time you start T2)

there are also quite a few little apps (i know analogX does one ... maxmem or summat its called) that will flush your RAM more or less aggressively with a simple right click menu from the system tray ...

But still, a close edit button should be implemented...
