Hi there,

I've read through some of the threads and am excited about this unit like many others too probably. Like others I have a PC etc...and would like to use this Receptor with a hardware sequencer if I end up buying the receptor.

From my research, before I started reading the threads I saw no reason why the Receptor wouldn't work with a hardware MIDI sequencer but after reading the thread about the Receptor not outputting MIDI my optimism has been dashed.

Please let me know what the situation is regarding the use of a hardware MIDI sequencer with the receptor because if I bought one I would want to be able to do this.

I've used mine, several times with no problems, with Logic Pro; but it sounds like you're talking about a standalone Sequencer. I'm sure it would be great.

Why not use your current or old PC as a standalone unit? Try looking into Teleport FX.

They make a number of products that you can use with your old PC as a stanalone unit. Use it as a synth, or FX box, or anything else for that matter. And, you dont need another soundcard in that box, or even a midi port. It's all done via a network card, thats it!

Yes I'm talking about using a standalone unit so in effect using the receptor as a tone module. Can it do this? if not will it be able to do this anytime soon?

In my opinion, one of the best things about Receptor is the fact that I can take it out to a gig and drive it from a standalone hardware sequencer (in my case, the sequencer from a Kawai K5000W). It'll behave exactly as it does with a software sequencer. It's quite easy to set up multi-channel, multi-patch Receptor presets.

Yes the Receptor does this too. But if this also answers your question, YES the Teleport FX can use ANY box (computer) you own as a synth. So....you dont even have to spend so much cash.

Thanks for the info....so I hook up MIDI out on the Receptor to MIDI in etc...on the hardware sequencer and away you go...end of story...the sequencer triggers the Receptor??? and that's it.......

Thanks also for the info on teleport I'll go and look into that as well.

I think you're better off hooking up the Midi IN on the Receptor to the Midi OUT of the sequencer

This doesn't make any sense. How would you use FX Teleport with a hardware sequencer?

You connect the MIDI output of the hardware sequencer to the MIDI input of a MIDI interface connected to one computer. Then, you connect this computer to another one via ethernet cable and use FX Teleport to send the MIDI to the second computer and get the audio back. So you go to a live gig and haul with you a hardware sequencer and two computers? It's ridiculous.

If you buy a laptop with equivalent power and a MIDI and audio interface of comparable quality you may end up spending more. Maybe you could save by buying a desktop computer with equivalent power and sound quality, but you have a big system that does not fit easily in a portable rack.

Either way, laptop or desktop you end up with a system that is not as robust and portable as Receptor. The question is what is more important to you, to save a few bucks, or to have a rugged, stable, portable system. I'm sure different people have different answers depending on their budget and their requirements.

Ahh....of course, Muse Research.
Not knocking your product, but they both work the same way(conceptually), you and I know that.
Was trying to help the guy out and giving options. BTW,...it always doesn't have to be a BOX(Desktop) as it is known, can be also get rackmount box that will obviously fit in a "portable" rack.
As far as the sequencer is concerned your right about that, something in my speed reading I overlooked.

We have to be vigilant all the time.

I haven't used FX Teleport, but I hear very good things about it.
