6 seconds here with plugins scan/rewire disabled. Strange

OK, I knew some of you would take me to task for complaining about 30 seconds. You might want to open your desktop clocks and stare at the screen for 30 seconds to get a sense for it. I agree it sounds silly (like needing an abbreviation for "at"?), but when you consider that Sonar can load a fully stocked audio engine instantly, that seems more in line with the promise of immediacy of digital technology. And I think we all experience a little agitation when you just want to sit down right away, like with analog gear/instruments, and start banging out a bed - but you have to wait 30 seconds while the splash screen mocks you.

And to be even more clear: my templates don't take long to load at all, just the Audio Engine.

My only experience is with Cubase, Sonar and I've tried Logic 5.5. Wondering how long other apps' GUI's take to open, cos I like it to open FAST. Doesn't seem like to much too ask in 2005. But then again, I'm not switching from Cubase anytime soon. ;)

Oh, and I do have roughly 540 dlls in my VSTplugin folder.

hey bduffy,
I agree with you totally.

I always wish Cubase would have the option to NOT scan the vsti's on load up.

Yeah! And here's another angle for people who think I'm bellyaching: Wavelab opens almost instantly, despite scanning all the same plug-ins. And if you install new VSTs, you can see it scan JUST those new one(s) and it still loads in a tiny fraction of the time Cubase does - so there is proof that the technology exists! Seamoss: let's write Steiny and point this out.

Oh, btw, I forgot to comment on the Commodore TapeDeck... :-o Nice!!!

Lode Runner, anyone?

well sx2 and 3 take about 6secs to load up here, i dont have a high no. of plugins though.

im still enjoying XPs faster load up times over previous OS versions.

6 secs! Nice.

Yeah, I do have a lot of plug-ins - but the fact that Wavelab opens instantly (like, less than a second) makes me wonder.

First off, you are using Cubase Le, which is a lot smaller program than the full Cubase SX. Bduffy only mentions Cubase, not which version. (SE,LE,SL,SX etc)

Second, I wonder how many vstis you have in your plugin folder and how many bduffy has? I had a VERY slow load time because I had a huge number of plugs that got checked on every load up. Once the seldom used ones were removed, Cubase SX loaded a lot faster.

I agree with you that waiting so long is not right.

On your question if anything take as long?

The same company is to blame. I just baught a library that uses the Halion player as the frontend and the time to open a project has gone from about 10-15 to 95 seconds after adding this library with the Halion player.

First they totally insulted me by forcing me to buy a expantion unit and waste extra money just to accomodate their stupid dongle, and then they insult me more with the world's slowest and buggiest sample player.

This reminds me simply why I use a different (US) company for may sequencer.

Good point; I didn't mention that. Cubase SX 2.2 and Nuendo 3.1 at work. No difference in loading on P4 3.06ghz + 1G RAM machines. The plugs are to blame largely, but again I cite the loading times of Wavelab and Sonar as (possible) proof it need not be this way!
