Receptor Midi Clock

With Receptor's clock set to internal, is Midi Clock sent to it's Midi Out or Thru by default? Checking the params in setup or the manual, I couldn't find an option.

Receptor does not send MIDI clock out. Actually, at this point Receptor does not send any MIDI out. It only receives MIDI in and sends it also to thru.
The VST plug-in spec includes tempo and time signature information. When Receptor is in internal tempo mode it sends the tempo and the time signature you enter to the plug-in. No MIDI clock is involved. If you look on the SETUP page you will see that the words "MIDI Clock" appear only as a choice in the "Tempo Source" popup.
When you select "MIDI clock" from the popup, Receptor receives MIDI Clock and derives a tempo from it. Then, it sends the tempo to all the VST plug-ins.

Thanks for the reply Dan. Is this a feature planned for an upcoming release? How would you tempo sync two Receptors or slave another device from a Receptor then without manually adjusting tempo on each unit?
Thanks,
Todd.

Todd.

If you send MIDI clock to one Receptor, the same MIDI messages would come out MIDI tru. You connect a cable to the MIDI in of another Receptor and they should keep in sync. I don't think we tried this, but I don't see why it would not work.

Yes, that is true but requires an additional external midi clock source. If only 2 receptors were in the setup, the current implementation would not allow one to sync off the other right? Is it possible to have the option to send midi clock to the Receptor Midi out as a feature request? It would be quite useful to be able to sync other midi tone modules, effects, etc. to the Receptor tempo. Other manufacturers such as Access have this available on their Virus TI. Since the tempo is already being generated internally (when the option is selected), would it be difficult to implement?

It's possible and I see how it can be useful. We don't have immediate plans for adding this feature, but we will consider it for future releases. You should post a feature request in the Improvement Wishes thread so that we can keep track of it.

How about MIDI song position pointer? This would be usefull when running BFD.

Currently MIDI song position pointer is not supported. Please post a feature request, and I would appreciate if you could explain a little bit more how you would use it with BFD.RecordingArts wrote:How about MIDI song position pointer? This would be usefull when running BFD.

You can use BFD in "drum machine' mode where it will play back patterns (Grooves in BFD speak)

So if you want to autolocate and start at Bar 51 (for example), you need song position pointer.

We'll have to check how this works in Cubase. I'm not sure if Cubase sends song position, maybe they just send the VST timing, which includes bars and beats. But, that's different than MIDI clock.

I'm using Digital Peformer 4.6

So you are using the AU version of BFD, while Receptor uses the VST version. Still for Receptor I would have to look at Cubase and the VST version to figure out how we could do this.

That would be much appreciated. UniWire and MIDI sync with song position pointer are the main things I'm waiting for.
