That post right there from edirol just about makes up my mind that I won't be buying a UA-25 for my next interface.

I've got one of those. It's good! I get 3.2ms latency.

I still think the problem sounds like faulty drivers for the USB2.0 interface.

IBM T41 1.6 Centrino laptop, XP sp2, 784Mb RAM, Edirol UA25

I used it on my old IBM T23 1.0 laptop, 384Mb Ram which I got good latency on too.

The UA25 only needs usb1.1

Just an aside here... from what I understand, plugging a 2.0 device into a 1.1 port only reduces the transfer rate. 1.1 is forward compatible. By the same token, a 1.1 device plugged into a 2.0 port will only transfer at 1.1 rates.

The UA-1000 is a 2.0 device. I have a 2.0 expansion pci card. I have disabled the ports on the board as well.

I was only responding to what edirol said. The UA will work even on 1.1 (though certainly not optimally.)

Also someone mentioned that their camera transfer speed didn't change when connected to usb 2.0. It might have been a 1.1 camera.

Who makes your pci card? 2.0 spec doesn't require hi-speed (which is what your UA is capable of.)

I also don't know if this would make any difference but the UA is usb powered correct? I know I once installed a pci video card that worked but slowed my system down because my power supply wasn't enough to power everything. Maybe you just need more power!

When I get home, Im going to try a few things.
1. plug ua-1000 into a 1.0 slot (to see if speeds are the same or different)
2. Check and test with buffer set low (instead of max)
3. After much cursing and gnashing of teeth, go and buy RAM and possibly a NEC USB2.0 expansion card.

I bought the SiS because it was one of the higher quailty options at the time...grr

You'll be glad you bought more ram. It seems to have gone up in price since i last looked, but you should see the benefit. 256 on XP is a bit tight, Edirol did have a point I'm afraid ... that said it does sound like you're having usb2 driver issues as well

When you say buffer set low instead of max do you mean you've set the asio buffer to 512 instead of 256?

Lower number = lower latency...

Just checking...cause when I first read about asio I didn't quite get that a lower buffer meant lower latency. Then again, I'm not sure I understand it any better than I did then

I would definitely recommend more ram in any case, more ram is always a good thing.

I would also check the power requirements of the UA and what size your power supply is. Can't hurt

And before you buy another USB board, check the specs on the one you have. It should say hi-speed, if it does, it's not the board.

The UA-1000 is externally powered. Its a big all in one unit...I dont even think firewire would power this puppy...Im about 15 minutes from going home...I literally work about 15 houses from my home (It will be nice to ride my bike while its not 95 degrees outside).

Ok...I lowered the buffer size...I was able to lower the latency...thank you! (also bangs head against wall)...however playback was very static-y. I was able to get a NEC usb card from a friend. Now I am running 768MB RAM...MUCH MUCH smoother...Only 60% CPU load on previous 85% load.
Perhaps its time to dust off T2. I might actually be able to put it to use.
