Master effects post volume?

Is there a way to setup tracktion to apply master effects after the volume fader? Right now it seems as though it's pre fader. I'm trying to put a master limiter on master effects but master volume is clipping when it shouldn't.

I think the master meter is the last in the chain, I guess the master volume is second to last.

Why not route all tracks to a master track and then put all the plugs you want onto that?

If you drop a limiter on your 2 bus you should be good. When you say matser efects im not sure what you mean...but if you have say an EQ on your 2 bus, then after that put your limiter.

I use a compressor on my 2 bus sometimes to catch peaks and it works great.

Right now it is pre-fader. But the clipping thing might be related to another issue. For me, even when I have a limiter on my master bus, I still get clipping. After placing your limiter (last in chain I assume), Set the master fader to -.10, instead of -0. That should stop the clipping on master bus. Atleast it does for me.

ugly, but:

leave your master at unity.

Place a limiter in the master section,and a new vol control before the limiter in the master section. Use that vol/pan to act as your master.

Yeah, thats how I do it. You lose one of your 4 possible filters, but you can drop a rack into the master section if you need more.. ;)

this could also be one of the reasons that the master volume's "zero" is acutally -3...?

no, zero is zero. -3dB is just the default for a new edit, presumably to give you a little extra headroom..

I'm not sure if we are actually CLIPPING at 0, or if it's just that the meters are posting a clip when it HITS zero. I use the "normalize" (scan the edit and set the master fader at the right level) function, do NOT bring it down to -0.1, and there are no clips.

But if it's at 0.0 it will still post 'clip' to the meters. This is the same for individual tracks. The meter is posting clip 0 instead of 'just over' 0.

Its always best to leave a little headroom IMO, even after a limiter. 0.5dB difference is unlikely to result in a noticably quieter mix!

I totally agree. I have a really good mastering book by Bob Katz and he explains in good detail why normalizing is not a good idea. You never want any part of your track to actually hit 0Dbfs.

Use a compressor/limiter on individual tracks or the whole mix if you need to bring up the average level of the track. I have not played with the mastering effect in Tracktion a whole lot yet but I love using Izotope Ozone. You can make mixes sound awesome with that plug-in.
