I like to be able to reamp a recorded guitar. I've had to throw away great gtr takes because I used a Flextone setting that didn't work for the song. I'd love to have an amp sim VST that's on par with a Pod XL.Hink wrote:why should I waste cpu on guitar processing?

I just find it mind boggling that plugin prices are steadily creeping up to that of the TDM world that is relegated to the "professionals" that can afford such luxuries. Each generation of software is increasing in price ~25% to 50%, way outpacing inflation in any economy on the planet. I can see this being a direct correlation to the Piracy they claim forces them to use intrusive copy protections.

This is going totally offtopic, but we have FW-1884 at the studio and iirc the latency is around 10ms, I'm not completely sure tho. And at the moment I have FireFace800 at home and it seems sweet (it is for a computer I am building for a friend for home studio use). So I have first hand experience on both of these (of fireface less), but I really love the Tascam. I would say if you need want an interface with a mixer for "cheap" get the Tascam, but if you can live without the mixer, the RME really seems very very nice (Haven't really been playing with it too much tho but it seems superb)Beardedone wrote:I want at least 6 balanced ins (at least four with phantom power and decent preamps) and 6 balanced outs and a headphone jack. I don't own a mixer. The Tascam FW1884 looks good for the money: A buddy of mine in Oregon has one and swaers by it but I am not clear about how low the the latency would be. It looks to me that the RME Fireface would be optimal. I may just have to wait.

I never had to reamp any guitars, to be honest.cptgone wrote: I like to be able to reamp a recorded guitar. I've had to throw away great gtr takes because I used a Flextone setting that didn't work for the song. I'd love to have an amp sim VST that's on par with a Pod XL.
But I will admit that there's some advances to such a method.
Still, just split your signal (heck, the POD Pros even have a dry signal output, IIRC), record the dry signal in addition and you're there.
With other plugins total recall is an incredible advance, but I never felt like needing it for guitar amp sims.
Even on my POD and VAmp I hardly ever saved more than 3-4 standard patches and did the rest by dialing in the required modifications quickly, which really is just a matter of seconds.

Did you ever do the math from a developers side? They wanna live, too ...Stupid American Pig wrote:I just find it mind boggling that plugin prices are steadily creeping up to that of the TDM world that is relegated to the "professionals" that can afford such luxuries. Don't get me wrong, I want everything for cheap, too. So devs have to make REALLY great stuff to get my money. If freeware is as good or better than this hi priced commercial stuff then they get my vote with the wallet. If the expensive commercial stuff is way better than free stuff then I'll pay a premium price if I really want this thingy. Simple as that.
Best wishes, FRitz

actually I totally understand that benefit of software amp sims...but two things about me...one before I record something I play it a million times cause that's the fun part, so by the time I do record it I got it down. Second, I don't like re-amping because I'm apt to do something different with the new tone....but I totally understand why someone would re-amp, but it isn't likely I would. However I also do a rough draft of guitars and a final copy which is the last thing recorded...cptgone wrote:I like to be able to reamp a recorded guitar. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Please, its just the same with hardware.cptgone wrote:I like to be able to reamp a recorded guitar. Record your dry signal using the bypassed hardware.
(acts like a DI box then)
Feed that dry track into the hardware and change whatever you want/need.
All you need to do is feed the proccesed signal back into your soundcard.
Latency ? Same as your soundcard.
Ohhhh, you dont have the IO's on your card !?
Just add a 2nd soundcard.
Delta Audiophile 2496 Mac/PC - 24 Bit/96kHz, 2 x analog I/O
or whatever...
79,00 € So what ?

Its a greater problem than I care to figure out. I dont say it has to be cheap, but do prices have to rise 50%?fritzman wrote:Did you ever do the math from a developers side? just out of curiosity: Why are you trying to get everybody here now to get away from AT2 and buy hardware instead? Wasn't there a plugin announced by you?

I assume nobody is going to the EAS beside Squids? We want a second opinion beside his on AT2
On the copy prtection matter, I hope that AT2 will not be pirated, but that might be wishfull thinking. I know little about how they go about pirating stuff, but if they did pirate Cubase that uses practically the same security enveloppe, then AT2 will probably get pirated someday.

Not too proud to know this fact, but what they did with cubase was not really a crack, it was rather an usb dongle emulation. And it has been announced by Steinberg that the crack doesn't work with new version of Syncrosoft licence center, so pirated versions cannot update.
On this AT2 matter, I think I'm going to buy it as soon as it hits the shelfs. At least to see hat it can do.

A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...
