I was hoping to plug it in to my mixer so I guess I'll have to wait and see if it's a viable option for me.
what do you call a guitarport with it's own processing and audio outs? POD...;)

Yea but isn't the guitarport just the like the LE version? Although I haven't really tested the POD the thing Line6 has going for it is they are sort of a "hedgehog" when it come to guitar processing. Meaning they don't concentrate on anything else except being the best at this one thing (anyone read "Good to Great" (a business book I admit but it applies here). I know & have heard of plenty of traditional/famous guitarists who have incorpoated the POD into their gear for practice or other purposes - I can't really say that about any of the other software based solutions. If the toneport is the "guts" of say the POD XT, it'd be tops.

yes but when you're going for a guitar tone that will be real, too digital is too sterile imo. I really think that using fine cables (I use monster) and going out the analog outputs of POD into the input of your card serves to "keep things honest" so to speak and doesn't deter from the sound. Even if it did, it isn't gonna be enough when push comes to shove and the song is done to matter as much as other more vital elements...so I still am not really excited about software solutions for amps as it is too digital and just makes my computer work harder...I gladly trade a virtually unperceivable loss of signal to solve either, solving both is even better...;)

from IK's Website I get the impression that I CAN upgrade my Amplitube LE now and get Amplitube 2 for free for only 238€

which is less than the summer deal for GuitarRig2

BTW I've since stopped by NI's booth and heard some of Guitar Rig 2, and my initial impressions are that AT2 just sounds much better (sure it could have just been the patch programming, but that was just the vibe I got0. Again AES is less than the ideal listening environment, but those were my initial impressions of both. Also, when I heard AT2 I was listening to a JCM800 patch with no effects and it sounded great, which is another big reason I'm psyched about it. The Fender Blackface preset they were playing though was covered in effects and did nothing for me, but that Marshall was raw and sounded great. I was really on the fence about whether to even be excited about AT2 as the original didn't do anything for me, but now I'm kind of psyched. Oh, and as far as I know and heard from IK, Ampeg is definately coming out, but it won't be until early next year, so I don't think these rumors of legal troubles hold any water.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

when I heard AT2 I was listening to a JCM800 patch with no effects and it sounded great.
As great as the free simulanalog JMC ?

i was at AES, and walked by the IK booth, and didn't see anything about Amplitude 2 in sight, only seemed like there was a demo guy for Sampletank, was a bit dissapointed.

heh?! FunkyBot did see the demo, but as he sais, there was too much background noise. That is weird that you did not see it or hear it. Why didn't you ask them where they are hiding AT2? :)

I think they were basically rotating through the different products. For instance when I first walked by there was a live band just jamming on a blues tune with the bass player using Ampeg, the guitar playing using AT2 of course, and a finger drummer (not Squids) using some drum sounds off of Sampletank, and all sounded good. When I came back later and introduced myself to Squids he got the guitar player to come back and demo AT2 for me solo, which was cool, cause he would just ask what kind of sound I wanted to hear (Marshall please, how's the AC30, etc), and it would get pulled up. So I'm sure you could have just asked. BTW let me just state again that though the listening environment was less than ideal, I was really impressed with the sustain this guy was getting with Marshall (he had a Les Paul too, which helps), and how at even a cranked distorted setting that the dynamics was still coming through. I gotta say, even with my Les Paul and my Guitarport I'm not pulling off sustain like that (my Twin gets close with the right stomp box though).

On a side note, I really did like the look of the Guitar Rig 2 controller. I didn't play with it, but I do believe I saw a toggle switch under the expression pedal for turning the wah on and off, which is a must IMO. Plus it just looked nice, not to mention sturdy.
