only 16 midi channels?

I was about to jump into the eastwest/receptor bundle until I read that Receptor maxes out at 16 midi channels. My plan was to use receptor mainly as a sampler playback module for my eastwest libraries and I was thinking on attaching an external USB multiport midi interface into Receptor to do this. Just think like using an external Gigastudio PC.

With my Mac dual 2.0 and DigitalPerformer, I can load about 4 instances of Kontakt 2, each with 16 midi channels for a total of 64 midi channels/instruments that i can play back at the same time.

So my question is, can I do this with Receptor?

Thanks for your help,

Luis Gonzalez

You could wait for UniWire. Or, right now you could have several instances of Colossus on Receptor, and you could route different MIDI channels to each one. For instance you could have 4 instances and use MIDI channels 1-4 for the first instance, 5-8 for the second, and so on. Or you could create stacked instruments by using the same channel for more than one instance.

So, Dan, currently it IS in fact limited to 16 total channels of MIDI? but when Uniwire comes, will it be more like 16 x 16...each VST "instance" of the Uniwire VST can be a separate multi-lane VST, like Sampletank, responding on all 16 channels?

thanks in advance

With UniWire it will be 16 x 16 for instruments, but you can also send 16 channels of MIDI to an effect, so theoretically it is 16 x 16 x 4 (one instrument and three effects per channel). Practically you would probably run out of instances before running out of UniWire MIDI streams.

That's great news Dan, exactly what I wanted to hear!! So one last question, when are you expecting to release Uniwire?

Best,

Luis :D
