Missing tracks after saving edit

Hi everyone,

When quiting Tracktion it asks me do I want to save changes to my edit. Even when I say yes on returning to the edit the next day some of the tracks are missing. Specifically it says ''missing files'' This never happened in Tracktion 1 and is very worrying. Last week I had a fairly complicated edit running,lots of plugins etc. I quit Tracktion and saved the changes as normal meaning to continue work on the edit later. When I did return at least half of the tracks were labelled as ''missing files'' As you can imagine I was not a happy camper as I had to try and remember all the plugin settings,pannings etc. Anybody else have this problem or know a solution? If it's a bug it needs fixing like yesterday.

Can't be a 'bug' per se or there wouldn't even BE any Tracktion users. ;)

A couple thoughts:

1. Just in case, make sure you do a 'manual save' from time to time. I ALWAYS have autosave enabled, too.

2. I wonder if your hard drive is getting full? Maybe while you were working, the files were stored in the temp directory? I don't think that's the way Tracktion works, though, so that doesn't make sense to me. Just a thought, though, and it never hurts to make sure you have oodles of space.

3. Tracktion, IMO, is very dumb about its 'pointers' and stuff. I've had recent problems of a slightly different nature. Have you tried looking in your project directory to see if the files are making it there? Try just one file or something, and then check the directory in Windows explorer. Perhaps the files are being saved to the wrong spot? If they ARE being saved to the directory, you can always (even though it's a PITA) re-assign the source files manually. (yuk, but at least the files will be there if you know it's saving them properly as you record)

4. Redundant edit names or identification somewhere along the way? This COULD end up being considered a 'bug' if it's the case. I'd save the project under a different and unique name to be sure.

Yep. It was my girlfriend. ;)

Er... haven't thought of what it may be, though. I wonder if I was just going to mention that whenever I get "file missing" it's because I've changed filenames from Windows Explorer or because I've deleted duplicated clips from my Project List.

Tried pruning your projects at all lately?

FWIW, I believe Rock had this problem recently, too. I wonder what the solution turned out to be.

Thanks everyone for replies. I did a manual save and so far it has held all the saved edit. Hopefully that is the answer.I have lots of room on my Mac harddrive so that should not be the problem. Either way watch out guys. If you have been slaving over a hot edit for 24 hours tweaking and polishing don't use autosave just in case.

Yup, and just to clarify: I didn't mean to imply that everything's working "as it should"... if it asks you to save and you say "yes", then dammit, it should SAVE!

I just meant that I wish we could figure out exactly what was causing the problem.
