Other question re East/West Receptor

Looks like a pretty good deal, but it appears that all the other instruments are missing/removed. If I were to purchase this box, I would need NI B4, Art Vista Virtual Piano, All the Spectrasonics stuff, GPO, Silver and probably FM7 (though I'd have to purchase that one.) I already own all the other mentioned apps, and there are probably a couple more I forgot about. WIll we be able to get these onto the Receptor, or is this complicated?

B4 and FM7 are part of any regular Receptor. I haven't heard of them being removed from the special Receptor with Colossus and I seriously doubt that they will be removed (the people who know for sure are travelling to AES NY right now).
You would have to install all the Spectrasonics plug-ins yourself anyway and you can also easily install GPO (just don't tell EW you plan to do that
).
I think we might be demo'ing Art Vista Virtual Piano at AES, but we do not have set a release date. We support Gold and Platinum, and we might support Silver too, but again we do not have a firm release date.

Thanks Dan. I know they are part of a regular Receptor, but the EW ad makes it sound like they have stripped all the other plugs and apps from it, leaving only Colossus. As long as I can get them through you folks after the fact, it's not a problem. But if their deal is EW only, I will be disappointed...

If you read the ad you see that the Receptor will be shipped directly from Muse Research. We have been offering customized Receptors with 160 GB hard drive and Colossus pre-installed for a while, but with a higher price than this deal. The only difference this time is the price.
Even if B4 and FM7 were not pre-installed you could download the installers from plugoroma.com and install them yourself.

This is great news. I broke down and ordered mine yesterday! Can't wait to get my hands on this unit!!DanTimis wrote:If you read the ad you see that the Receptor will be shipped directly from Muse Research. So, when is Uniwire going to be available?!?

This was the question. My experience with advertising language is simply that if it isn't explicitly stated in the ad, then it doesn't exist.DanTimis wrote:Even if B4 and FM7 were not pre-installed you could download the installers from plugoroma.com and install them yourself.
Licensing is a funny think. The language in the ad states it ships from MR, but that is not the same thing as saying it has all the original plugs installed; which led me to believe they were not - but you are saying they ARE included, which is what I needed to know. Thanks.

I am seriously considering this East West/Colossus deal also. I have a few questions too:
I will be primarily using it in the studio to run VSTi's.
How will the receptor be better than just using another computer for this purpose? (Will it cost more to upgrade than it would to upgrade a computer? Can more hard drives be easily added on?).
If I were to run 16 different VSTi's at the same time, would there be any problems? Would it be able to use Choirs, EWQLSO Platinum, RA, Colossus, Reaktor, Arturia Moog Modular V, FM7, and others, with this version of receptor (160 gigs and 1.25 ram), all at the same time without a problem?
How many East West instruments can it run with these specs?
Does it work like FX teleport does? How exactly?
Will the additional cost for receptor versions of plugins be low? Is that hundreds of dollars I see for CS-80 which I already own??
Will the usual included free Premium Plug-ins come with it? (like the Dash Signature, Ohm Force Predatohm, etc.)
Will they pre-install other plugins that I already own too? (From Arturia, NI, etc.)
Will all the VSTi's on it be able to work just like on any other computer? Are the VSTi's stripped down at all? I'm assuming there is no way to see a whole kompakt interface on the screen it provides... How much control over the VSTi do you have without an external monitor?
What is the lifespan of receptor?
Is it quick and easy to learn?
Can you connect external hard drives to it to expand the memory?
How much would it cost to expand it from 160 gigs and 1.25 ram?
What happens in the future with new products? What if they take up many gigs of memory?
What is the most ram and harddrive space it can hold?
I think I read that the graphics card is stripped down a little for better processing. Would it be able to handle all the action that something like a Arturia Moog Modular V would have?
One of my biggest drawbacks right now is that it cannot run reaktor. This takes out a huge chunk of VSTi's, effects, etc. that I use. Do you think it will have support for this later?

A Suggestion:Adambomb337 wrote:I am seriously considering this East West/Colossus deal also. I have a few questions too...
I had most of these same questions. then I downloaded and read the entire owners manual in PDF form from the website, and it pretty much answered ALL of my questions and will answer many/most of yours. Also, there is a new press release on Uniwire that covers the basics of what it does, and a more thorough "video" that actually goes into more detail.
After reading the manual and reviewing all the training videos, I bought the Collosus/Receptor bundle!

These are all very good questions. But, some of them have already been answered in this forum, and some are answered at plugorama.com or in the manual. Moreover, some question are subjective like how easy it is to learn Receptor.
I'll try to answer a few:
You can connect an external USB drive. You can copy samples and other data from the external USB drive to the internal drive, or you can load samples in RAM from the external drive. But, you cannot stream in real-time from an external drive - with DFD for instance.
The most RAM it can hold is 2 GB. There is only one internal hard drive that needs to be formated by us. You cannot install your own hard drive. We offer 160 GB and 200 GB hard drives. We are looking at other capacities. The 400 GB drives run too hot so they will not work with Receptor.
We do not have immediate plans to run Reaktor. We might do it in the future.

I did a lot more research. One thing I don't understand though, it how uniwire works as a VST in a host/sequencer. In the video, it shows cubase brinigng up Muse > Uniwire Instrument. Would this normally bring up a list of VSTi's under Muse? And how many can you have?
Also, can it work with FLstudio?

I could be wrong but I don't THINK it's quite that seamless. I believe you would still use the Receptor Remote window to bring up a multi in receptor, load the right plugs-ins, etc. Then in the Sequencer, you would just use the little ReceptorVST app, which I believe just let's you select which receptor and which receptor "channel" (and then and of course assign the receptorVST's output to an audio channel just like you do any VST).Adambomb337 wrote:I did a lot more research. That said, the "program/bank change" messages sent from the sequence could still be used to control receptor I suppose...which CAN in fact call up a multi and change programs/banks on an individual channel.
I'm anxious to see it work in my studio, as are we all!

If you saw the video from Musik Messe, that was a very early prototype of the plug-in. If you saw the demo at AES, you saw the final version of the plug-in and you saw that there is quite a bit more than just selecting the Receptor and the channel.
The UniWire VST or AU plug-in has popups for multis and singles, and you can use them to cause Receptor to load multis and singles. So if you have all your multis and singles set up, you can work from within your DAW without bringing up Receptor Remote.
If you are creating or editing your multis or singles, you do need Receptor Remote. The VST or AU plug-in has also a button that brings up Receptor Remote so it is very fast to switch between your DAW and Receptor Remote.
It is not completely seamless, but it is fairly close.

The EastWest version of Receptor is a standard Receptor with all the normal pre-insatlled software with the addition of a pre-installed, ready-to-go copy of Colossus. We are not removing any software from the Receptor before installing the copy of Colossus... after all, there are some very cool synths and effects that complement Colossus really nicely!
