edits re-open at chipmunk speed

I've run into an issue where all my edits play back at what sounds like double or maybe triple speed when I re-open them. Maybe that's not quite right but they're sped up and all notes are transposed up by two octaves. Anybody else run into this? I've got XT standalone running fine and Reason too, (not at once...) Should I just re-install T2?

Fixed it. Turned ASIO Direct mode off. Then, turned it on again. Still fine.

Another thing you might look at is system sounds. If you have these turned on, when a system sound plays, it hijacks the soundcard and resets its sample rate - sometimes it doesn't reset when you open your audio files. Most system sounds seem to be at 22KHz, so when you play your 44.1KHz sampled files, they double in pitch (higher samples rates pro-rata, of course).

It's best to turn off system sounds anyway, as there's nothing more annoying than a Windows prompt sound turning up in the middle of a complicated mix .

Thanks, yeah, they're off. It is funny with sound though. I've got a MIA and sometimes everything is logical then suddenly there's an odd glitch. But its always been correctable so far. Nice to have all my edits back to normal.

gizmo, you may want to check if there is a "lock sample" rate option for your drivers. I find with my m-audio that I need to have this enabled, or from time to time I experience issues similar to those described by Graeme, only in my case pretty much everything from WinAMP to my sampler getting powered up can mess with the driver level sample rate.

I have an Echo Indigo IO and have the same problem. I go to settings and change the sample rate to 48khz and they play fine. I switch back to 44.1 and they sound fine. Only happens on my Echo card; my M-Audio Quattro works just fine.

I locked the sample rate at 44.1 although I'd already fixed the chipmunk thing. But it does *seem* now that I can get more tracks going, no crackling, etc. All these tweaks do seem to add up.
