Sorry Composer11, but what started out as probably a legitimate thread, turned into something much less credible when you felt the need to start telling us all how much of a "pro" you are. In my experience, pro's don't generally behave like that.

If PT is not for you - move on and don't be bitter. It's not worth the stress.

You have to vent some well documented frustrations from time to time to keep those devs on their toes.

I work on TDM systems all the time, and they're fine, but the cost factor is not the only factor in our considerations when we build a new post facility for a series.

Protools LE is an interesting option for doing work at home and then taking that to the big systems, or rather it was supposed to be that way. Digidesign has stood by the sidelines and let Apple and Steinberg systematically firehose users with innovative features that increase productivity. They didn't do it perfectly(OMF catastrophies anyone?) but on a lot of stuff they're ahead of Protools on interface issues. The interface is the productivity enabler.

Some examples.

All playouts in Protools are realtime. It never had nor will it have a non-realtime export-a-mix option like most other applications have. A full mixdown of eight M&E tracks and three stereo mixes for one of our 25 minute series here takes 12 minutes on one of our Nuendo systems. That system has some UAD cards in it as well. The Protools systems have to do two full realtime playouts, because we can't block another Protools system to record 14 tracks(3 stereo + or have the necessary disk power for a full session playback record if this stuff.

Protools LE misses automation pasting from the TDM version, as well as the scrub trimmer, as well as search capabilty of the comments field in the Digibase(useless trash compared to full audiodatabases), scaling of bus counts to TDM levels(increased in PT7LE though which is nice) and a lot more. Hell they've castrated the interface which leads me to believe that their hardware isn't a strong enough selling point any longer.

Any Protools HD 2 and up system outperforms almost ANY native DAW out there right now. It's performance and sometimes even its stability(in postproduction with video options) is just way above the rest. Make no mistake though that Protools LE is vastly inferior to Nuendo, which in turn degrades even Protools TDM on many,many levels interface-wise. While Nuendo isn't perfect, Protools LE is much further from even coming close to getting there.

Hey, the gap's closing in some areas. I've ranted like a lunatic in the DUC on the shortcomings of PTLE and I think you, Composer11 should return to the DUC and bitch and moan with cold hard facts in your hand, just like Shane and the rest do. I will.

wrong...PT 4 had non-realtime bouncing and this feature was take of by the demand of tdm or/and mix users who wanted to use external hardware during bounce...

Digi simply took this feature off instead of giving the user the choice to bounce in realtime AND faster than realtime.

Now they're simply a bit long (at the last...can we say that like this?) to put this feature again (with the choice which is essential.)
