Hello!

I bought an ASUS Laptop (see this post). The machine seems to work ok. I started configuring it (bye bye Norton) and installed my brand-new M-Audio Firewire. The supplied CD drivers were giving me the finger, so I downloaded the latest drivers at the website and installed those.

I also installed Tracktion 1.6xxx (the version supplied for free by Mackie last year).

I added a few plugs and started playing my faithful Albino 2. After a few notes (I must admit I tried the 'put your flat hands on the keybord a few times to see the number of notes you can get' test) and then... no sound. ASIO crashed big time.

I restarted, and started playing again and asfter a few tries noted that playing a VST isn't the problem, but doing any edits in Tracktion. Clicking a button on the Albino gives about 25% chance on a crash. Fiddling around with Tracktion without touching any VSTi crashes the ASIO driver about once an hour.

So... my logical conclusion is that it's not a bandwidth problem but some kind of nastiness between ASIO and Tracktion and maybe some additional dodginess in the FireWire-AudioPhile department.

I will try out some other demo software to see if they have the same problems. I do like to bet on as many horses as possible, however.

So... I kindly ask anyone to give hints, comments, answers or whatever on this. Please?

ps. I saw that the AudioPhile Firmware dates from 2003... can I download an update somewhere?[/url]

Do you have "use real-time priority mode" enabled in the settings page? If so turn it off..

I believe I turned this off (I am not at my laptop now... it's quite unmobile at the moment, lol).

Btw... if I am correct you need to start your PC first and then start the Audiophile, isn't it?

Well, there's m-audio drivers for the Firewire audiophile that were released on october 10th 2005 here:

These seem to be the same drivers as for the Firewire 410, which i have, and it works great in tracktion

Quite sure I have those. Installed the whole bunch on the 11th, lol. Maybe some new problem coming from these drivers?

If you've got those drivers then I don't understand the above question?

I usually turn on my 410 before the laptop, the light blinks blue before the laptop fires up, when it's properly booted it stops blinking. Never had any problem starting them in that order, but sometimes had trouble getting the laptop to recognise the 410 was there if i turned the laptop on first, then the 410

FIRMWARE, not drivers. Many peripherals can be loaded with updated instructions. These are not stored on your PC (as drivers are) but inside the AudioPhile, in this case.

Ah right. Bit hungover today (went to the pub to watch the football)

How can you tell what firmware the Audiophile is running? I've never noticed anything on mine.

Not right now... you see it in the control panel. I know they are quite old (end of 2003, I think), though. Probably when the goodie was designed. I do not know whether there IS any new firmware, mind that.
