On the VHTs,

I played them several times and while it's a good amp it's not really my taste.
REALLY, really good amps are Diezel and Bogner amps. If I would have to choose ONE amp for the rest of my life I would get a Diezel. Very versatile. They can do anything from WARM sparkling clean, wonderful warm crunch to big rock and extreme metal tones. Everything else I EVER heard only sounds different but not better.

Diezels would probably be my choice as well, but for live playing they're critical as they're extremely wellknown to blow their tubes rather often.
I once borrowed one for a studio session and had to exchange the tubes on the third day...

Oh,

that's strange. Did you have to change the power tubes or the pre amp tubes? Or both? Sounds as if there's something wrong with the amp you had there. I never heard anything bad about these amps, but hey ...

The power amp tubes. Preamp tubes hardly blow unless there's something truly wrong.
But then, as said, Diezels are wellknown for their high tube consume. Even the maker admits to that, seems to be part of his design to have the power amp tubes running very hot.

"power amp tubes", is that the same thing as a power supply fuse?

What's up Funkybot? Nice seeing you at the AES show. Sasha, your sig is awesome.

I have the version from the AES show which is very close to the final. It is unbelievable. I am already using it in some music I am working on. I will play some audio clips soon but I will let the "official" ones come out first of course. It is fantastic, amazing... okay, I will spare you the Squidshype just this once. ;) But, I was able to get a really accurate "Jazz Chorus" sound because of the modeled CE-1 pedal. That liquid chorus is the same one used in the old Jazz Chorus amp. With the dual rigs you can do some interesting stuff. I also made a simulated Mutron Bi-Phase and the dual Maestro rig John Paul Jones used on No Quarter. I have been using this as much on vintage keyboards as I have on guitar. But, I was always one to use vintage pedals on my clav and wurly when I used to play with Kevin Gilbert and other rock gigs.

It's a lot of fun to make custom amps with the larger variety of combinations you can make (up to 20,000 this time!). Also the dynamic saturation modeling really makes a huge difference. You can hear more animation in the break up of the distortion and the harmonics which sounds much more realistic than other sims. That tonal variety is pretty key. The push of the amp when it goes to 11. ;)

I don't mean to taunt and tease by saying I have it. Just giving bits of info to those that want to know. Eventually anyone who wants it will have it for themselves and then we can all discuss what sort of cool sounds we were able to get out of it. Needless to say, I will be making tons of presets for it (and also to give away on esoundz). Any requests? (Funkybot, I have the wall of sound "All is Forgiven" cranked AC30 sound already! ;) and a little suprise for Jellyfish fans possibly coming up).

No. It's the big glowing things inside tube amps.

Just give us some dry sounds, Squids.

Squids, one question regarding the upgrade scheme: I have got an Amplitube Live here (still in a sealed package...), and I wonder wheter registering it and upgrading to Amplitube 1 right now (for 199) will give me Amplitube 2 for free? I *think* this is the case, but the upgrade path isn't described in very much detail at the Amplitube site. Thanks for the info!

Hi Squids,

any comments on the "no dynamics" thing someone said he experienced with AT2 at your booth?

loophead wrote: AES NYC:

I asked the player to hit some stuff while I turned down his volume pot. 'Lets hear how dynamic this is.' I mean thats the whole point right. So what do I hear ? Zero dynamics. As I change the volume the sound remains exactly the same timber. "Whats up ?" I ask. "Well that bit of the code has not been implemented yet" he tells me .... ! Ok I wont ask squids what he heard but if he has been raving about this he'll need to get a better doctor.

Alright will this have the dongle ? "NO" he says. "NO" I ask in disbelief "are you absolutly positive ?" ...."To my knowledge it will NOT have the dongle" he replies ....

So the jury is out. If A2 has dynmics like they have been touting it will be worth it to most customers.

If it has NO dongle (I will believe it when it is released next month (? )) some customers will actually buy it.

Regardless; everything around the sim can be had better with various plugs so to me thats all window dressing. I was unable to verify anything of sonic value because still this plugin is not ready.

So those of you who want to know how it sounds will have to wait because the important bit is not being shown or demoed. Anything anyone is hearing is not useful information.

We wait and see...

Your version sounds very different as usual. But that's basically OK. The thing is that your report is very contrary to the one loophead gave. Might be someone from the competition but a statement would be nice. You know the hype, good and bad ...

Hey Squids as far as requests for MP3s, I'd say go for simple pretty much dry amp sounds found on classic songs. Sweet Child O Mine is actually a great song to test out a Marshall patch with for instance. Everyone knows it, and it's a great tone with little more than reverb (I'm thinking plate). Anything from Hendrix's first album would rock, or if you're feeling really adventurous you could always go for a Voodoo ChilD (Slight Return) sound. Aside from that give me a clean Twin sound, a slightly dirty AC30, and a nice crunchy modern Marshall. Also I'm not a fan, but these kids nowadays all want that super distorted low end Boogie sound. If you need help with clips PM me. I've got a Grace 101 which has a really clean Hi-Z input, and a bunch of guitars I'd be happy to whip up some stuff for you. In fact, I'm gonna go through some new strings on my Les Paul.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Our lives would have been so much easier if IK hadn't announced AT2 in January. I wonder why they did that?

Post

My life is completely OK.
I seriously don't give a damn about any software announcements anymore.

Yes,

too many took us for some rollercoaster rides during the last months. Only released software can be good software, or something like that.

.. olla squidsney .. :) .. do you have any insight into IK´s bass plugin? would be sufficent if you could tell us IF its going to be released some day .. ;)

the thing that still let me wait patiently for AT2 is that i am still happy with AT1.
though, their marketing strategy (announcements) is terrible.
that´s why i think that its okay for me to spread my sarcasm about it .. :P
