fuzz definately has it's place, sadly most of my favorite songs that used fuzz back in the day just didn't make the swap over to digital very well...one very good example would be "Rocky Mountain Way"...I have loved that song since it came out. But I have a hard time listening to the cd version, the fuzz seems to mimick and create that horrible digital distortion...I get the urge to fix it. Some of creme is exactly the same way...but that's okay, digital isnt for everything, that's why I have a turntable and tape deck...

In addition, some pedal drive such as the new Fulltone ones would e highly welcomed. For the tone afficionados among you, I highly recommend checking out the Fulltone pedals. I've never ever played a better drive pedal than either their OCD or Fulldrive 2.
Oh, that OCD sounds really cool. Gotta check it out. Thanx for the tip, man!
I rarely heard a fuzz sound that I liked. Lenny's guitar sound is one of the worst for me in this area. Though he is a good songwriter.Sascha Franck wrote:And fwiw, I dig fuzz pedals every now and then. Just as much as I like Lenny Kravitz, which IMO is one of the greatest songwriters and producers during the last years, "modern vintage" or so. Just listen to his fuzzy rhythm tones, great!
Best wishes, FRitz

Freaking expensive over here though, usually between 240 and 250 Euros - at a retail price of 179 USD.fritzman wrote: Oh, that OCD sounds really cool. Gotta check it out. Thanx for the tip, man!
What the heck are those distributors thinking? That's around 100 USD for the shipping of an overdrive pedal!
If you like it, try to get someone pick one up for you in the US - I'm just doing so as well. Maybe we should build up a little KVR/USA-KVR/Germany connection...
Well, I don't like Mr. Kravitz' soloing escapades, but I defenitely love his rhythm tones.I rarely heard a fuzz sound that I liked. Lenny's guitar sound is one of the worst for me in this area. Though he is a good songwriter.![]()

Btw, Fritz, I just found this site (it's in german):
http://www.dietside.de/OVERDRIVETEST.htm
That dude seems to own like EACH and EVERY overdrive pedal there is, there's reviews and soundfiles for most of them.

As Midiworks asked for a comparison between my previous Pod mockup and the VAmp, here's the same backing with the guitars now coming from the VAmp.
Excuse the less than stellar playing, didn't want to spend any more time with it.
Still the same as before, all rhythm guitars are done using 100% the same sound, the noodling in the second half is done with one single amp sound as well.

well...I'm a little late, but the rhythm distortion tone from Saschas' first link is exactly why I don't like PODs or emulators. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. All the noise, none of the charm. The sustain/release portion of every chord or note is completely wrong. It shatters instead of fades.
I have the Fulltone '69 (red). It is amazing. I'm considering the Choral and the Clyde Deluxe. But I have been trying to swear off pedals. It's not working though.
oh yeah, AND AT2 gets my hopes up. I hated AT1 and GR1 but I'm still amazed at where we are going here and am hopeful that goodness is just around the corner.

It takes real talent to f**k up a simple classic like American Woman that almost any no talent garage band can play well.

I have a lot of respect for Lenny Kravitz though I'm not much of a fan tbh. However I don't think that's a really fair thing to say. Just because you don't like the cover doesn't mean he ruined the song. It's just his interpretation of the song, as an artist he has the right to interpret it the way he sees itSJ_Digriz wrote:It takes real talent to fcuk up a simple classic like American Woman that almost any no talent garage band can play well.
FWIW there are many songs that got covered to my dismay, songs imo should of been left alone, but it doesn't really matter.
The thing I dont like about LK is the distortion on the vox and distortion on the drums he uses in some of his songs. That's just a product of my personal taste and my development as a recording artist. I am not in anyway suugesting it's "wrong", but like you described in you first post...it's like fingernails on chaulkboards too me.
I will agree though the LK is a very good song writer, I dont have to like the song to appreciate the talent. Like for instance Pete Townsend, I think he might be one of the worse lead guitar playes that made it that big. But he's a hell of guitarist and songwriter...his solos though just make me cringe...

Hink, I was mostly having a go at Sascha for fun. Sorry that you got some sensibilities stepped on. Don't worry, I understand that most of what people produce as music is all about personal taste.Hink wrote: I have a lot of respect for Lenny Kravitz though I'm not much of a fan tbh. It's funny you mention Pete Townshend. He's pretty much an old guys LK. Both have great rhythm feel. It all sounds natural and fluid but if you try to play it you find out just how much is NOT natural. Just like you though I wish both would give up on lead guitar. Of course no one can butcher a guitar solo like Neil Young. But he's a blast to watch do it.

BTW I like Sacha's tone, like was said too me by andrew it doesn't make me go wow and it's not exactly my tone but that matters not as well. Obviously Sascha likes it and he does well with it, so I assume he's comfortable with that sound...so good for him. I also think judging someone by their choice of tone (or phrasing for that matter) is again out of line. I mean I wonder how many people told Chuck Berry his tone and phrasing were all wrong, I for one am glad he didn't listen to them.
Those things are part of how the musician expresses himself, if you dont like it...that's fair...but to take that to the level of judgement is kinda sad imo.
However Sascha I know you probably dont care what I think, I do have a little advice. It's really not overly audible. But I ran the analyzer over it. It did come back saying in that short sample there were over 6000 possible clipped samples (AA's analyzer) on one side and over 7000 on the other so it might be hard to really know, maybe you might want normalize the original. I know what's next so let me just say in AA's edit view you dont have volume fader so I can't push it up, so that's the amplitude of the wave, and it did keep my meters peaked.

Well it all comes back to the fact that good players can sound good playing a piece of crap Asian import $75 guitar without plugging it into an amp. Guys like me can almost sound like a guitar player if I have $10932572139854387 worth of gear and you catch me at a good moment.
However, tone is truly all about taste. I can't listen to modern production for very long, even on songs I like. They just wear me out and without fail the guitar tones irritate me. But then again, I love Bensons ultra dry jazz tone which could offend almost anyone who is used to distortion. So there is no doubt it is all about what you are used to hearing.
I keep hoping that AT52/GR52 will be able to allow us ALL to get what we are after in the comfort of our own little music room. It's getting better, but when I plug my strat into my fullton 69' into a cheezy little fender twin there is NOOOOO comparison coming from my computer no matter how much I twiddle with the dials.
