Hey, if they go bankrupt due to lack of sales, it'll soon become abandonware anyways!! :hihi:

Another thing that puts me off - If I buy EU, I pay £129 at the moment. If I buy NON-EU, I pay £103.

....

c'mon, what the freak is that all about???

Ditto. 8)
Makes you wonder why they don't "get with the program" huh?
;-)
Kinda. The GB would be quite successful, I think...

Why would they waste time and ressources making an AU and DX version when VST is cross-platform? Why not NOT waste thoses ressources and use those saving to lower the price a notch or two?

By the same token, why would there be an AU version and not a DX version?

Tell me ONE Dx only host...there's the reason...Logic and Digital Performer are Au ONLY.. (and dp is also mas).
You mean to tell me that, with all the houpla around Logic, it can't even load VST effect? What a crappy host that is.

The version of Vegas I use is DX only (the new version can load VSTE, but I'm still on 5), but I'll never complain to plugin dev for a DX version, as I understand it's the host developer job to make sure his program support the most popular plugin format, which in this case would be VST by a long, far and wide margin.

Good point. But vst is not the most popular on mac, by any margin. It's if ianything, the underdog.
Shows how much I know about Mac  , I would have thought peoples would have prefered open and cross-platform solution to a proprietary and closed format.

Back in the day, Emagic used to complain that ASIO and VST were Steinberg's proprietary things and not adequately documented. Emagic duplicated the functions of ASIO with their own EASI driver spec and tried to encourage hardware manufacturers to build EASI drivers and later worked with Apple to create the AU and Core Audio specs - so I guess they prefer to play in their own sandbox than support the most popular standards.

The trouble with this multiplicity of formats is that all the small developers haven't the time to build plugins to all these different formats and spare a thought for the extra work with the shift to x86 hardware. All the development hours that go into this endless replication of plugins on different plaforms would be so much better spent making new and better plugins on fewer platforms.

or lowering the price of the plug ins while keeping the same profit margin for the dev (maybe even more profit as the decrease in price could mean more unit sold as well). Or a combination of both.

The duplication of plug in format is bad for the industry and end user any which way you look at it, which was my point in the first place.

well, the algorithm itself is mostly not a problem (when done in c++), its only a lot of work. the gui mostly is the problem, when porting an existing plugin to another platform. every
os handles this completely different. now, once made a plugin, having implemented the gui and the gui features (such as drop down menues, etc), you find out, that what is easily done on one platform, is close to impossible to implement on another. so you have to find a similar solution from scratch, keeping crossplatform compatibilities, same workflow, etc. :?
