Rendering problem: nothing but silence

I'm sure others have had this problem, but I've done a search and can't find anything (partly because I'm feeling impatient).

Anyways, I'm trying to render a track, and everytime the track renders I get nothing but silence. When this happens and I go back to the original, unrendered track, it also doesn't play. (The track is a simple midi line playing a sf2 with sfz, with automated volume.)

Any clues for what I might do to fix this?

Many thanks,

Fox

Try exporting the track at 1x speed..?

Hmmm...that requires me to copy the track, put it in another edit, and then export the edit, right?

I'll try it....

Post

Oops...not "export the edit," but rather, "create an audio file," under which I can make the render occur at 1x. I can't see where else I can change the render speed.

Post

Didn't work.

Other ideas?

No, just select the track first, and tick "only render selected tracks"

Check you have an automation node before the part starts..?

Post

- ignore - :)

Post

No automation node before the part starts. Are you saying there should be one before the part starts, or there shouldn't??

[edit:] so I tried sticking an automation node before the midi part starts. no luck. the track is made up of about 4 midi clips. should that matter.

Hmmm...this is odd. Perhaps I should save everything into a new edit...or a new project????

Post

Try merging all the MIDI clips, and adding an automation node after the clip starts, but before the first note-on.

Its probably also worth checking for and deleting any uneeded MIDI controllers..

Did you make sure sfz has loaded your soundfont? ;) I find sfz to be flaky, to say the least, although it's still my main sf2 player.

Double-check sfz... make sure your track isn't outputting to a MIDI device instead of an audio device... er, what else... use DFD mode in sfz just to be sure that your soundfont isn't getting bumped from RAM somehow.

Yup...when I start the project (say, I close it and restart it) the track plays fine. But when I render it, nothing is rendered and it no longer plays at all!

I even reloaded the soundfont into sfz...but no luck.

Hmmmm....

....thanks for the ideas.

...any others?

Nowhere near it.

And I defragmented it, and still the same problem.

Post

Fox...I had this same problem, but couldnt get it resolved...I kinda did a workaround, and the problem slipped to the archives.

What I ended up doing, was taking my whole project over to a laptop that I use at work, and rendering it there. I hope you get it figured out...i feel your pain
