FR? Relative File Structure

I'd like an option in preferences for relative paths. I use many graphics applications that have it built-in, so that a moved project will automatically search for a project subfolder called "links" for example, and automatically find linked files. I'd like to see an option in Tracktion to do the same. My typical project is usually set up this way anyway, with a project subfolder for recorded takes, and another subfolder for any imported midi or audio data. I'd rather not have to open each project and "collect" the files to an archive if I was changing my system around and adding/removing drives.

Not sure I understand, mike.

When you export a project, you can include all media files that are associated with that project!

Or is that the part that's problematic?

I'm just thinking ahead - I've upgraded many systems, and I might end up with differing drive structures. If I do this, I would prefer to be able to simply move all of the data. Then I wouldn't have to run the export for each project individually. Seeing as how I already have the projects filed neatly, I don't export them at present. Right now, It's no problem. And if I do have to move data, it shouldn't be too much problem to manually re-link everything with my current file structuring. I just would rather not *have* to, since I'm lazy whenever possible!

Fair enough-- and now that many people have a DVD-burner and projects that are less than 4GB (8GB for dual-layer!), it'd be nice to just burn the whole directory as-is instead of exporting.

Just as an option, of course.

I personally still prefer the export option for the sake of "neatness" and a sense of completion, but I can definitely see why simply copying and then moving the directory would be a handy feature for scores of people.

A batch edit converter that corrects links to files shouldn't be very difficult to make... I unfortunatly don't have the time atm to make such an app but maybe there are other coders on here who'd take a shot at it.

Yes an old thread revisited:

Finally got my new computer up and running. Exported archives from my old machine and imported into the new machine with no problems to report, fortunately, even with a completely different file structure.

I'm happy.
