Volume problem using String Theory

I know String Theory is a bit of a beast, but I've noticed that every time I use it I get huge spikes of volume - clipping when I've barely touched the keyboard. I've tried using it with the same patches and settings in Sonar 2.2 and an old PC version of Logic and it's been well-behaved, with no clipping. I've also tried it with my Terratec Phase 22 card and also with my motherboard-based Nvidia Sound Storm. No difference, it still clips badly in T2. Very hard to control.
Is this a known problem?
