The 10/07/05 annoucement from AES at this link:

http://www.museresearch.com/press_relea ... s_over.php

says "A white paper is available at the Muse Research booth explaining the concept of UniWire and what it can do for you. You can also request a copy to be mailed, faxed, or emailed to you by contacting Muse Research at (650) 326-5400 or by sending an email request to info@museresearch.com."

I have sent an email and heard nothing back. Would it be possible to just POST this "whitepaper" up on this forum for all interested parties to see?

thanks in advance

The file was 14MB and bouncing back from eveyones servers. We are in the process of reducing the file size so we can post it.

Thanks for that Rick....I actually received it just now, a 13 MB PDF file. I guess gmail is one of the few mail servers out there that basically doesn't HAVE an attachment limit! Took some time to pull it over 3mbit DSL though ;-)

Great doc, answers a lot of questions. I do have one burning question that I didn't see explicitly answered, though: will the Uniwire VST support "fast freeze" from within Sonar and other hosts, like most other VST instruments do? I hope so!

This thing looks SO awesome. I should be getting my Receptor/Collosus unit next week and I am planning on using spdif and light-pipe to get separate outs into Sonar until Uniwire is available. I foresee many many sleepless nights ahead

Thanks again!

UniWire works ONLY in real-time. Freeze or any other offline processing will not work.

There are workarounds. I don't know Sonar, but in Cubase you can either export a mix in real-time (and of course you can solo just one MIDI track), or you can record the output of each Receptor channel to an audio track. It's not as convenient as freeze, but it is pretty easy to do.

Thanks for the information, Dan. Well, I'm glad I have the ADAT input on my audio interface, as this and spdif should allow me to capture 5 stereo audio channels at once (I think) when I am ready to begin the final mix and want everything rendered to audio.

Fast freeze WOULD be nice, but like you say there are workarounds.

Uniwire, plus the reasonable prices posted for crossgrades, are making Receptor look good for my church use :) no more "floppy disks shoved in the Yamaha keyboard", perhaps  and Uniwire is definitely an improvement over a bunch of MIDI cables.

Nice to know it wasn't tested on animals :D bummer about not curing diseases, but we can't all walk on water see the disclaimer if you're not sure what I'm talking about.

Well thanks :-)

I must say that if UniWire delivers - this is a major amazing break-through :-) :-) :-)

Would be even greater if other gadgets-makers agree on using this protocol too.

Looking at that site, I don't see the (c) or "tm" symbols anywhere. I think Uniwire is just the name of this UK fencing company, so I doubt there would be an issue. :)

I would suggest that you have you team look into it in depth otherwise you may experience trouble in the future.

Using the name may be ok although it is copyright and trademarked in some countries, but the name "UniWire" has been a registered trademark in the USA for some time.

No problems if you don't try to trademark it!

Sorry, just think you ought to check it out.
