Tracktion Software

i know that this may not seem like a big idea but..what if you could burn your songs right out of tracktion? right to a disk! it would be great for data backup and maybe if you could set fades and some basic stuff thrown in with final mix it would be a real tool for demo making and also in my case sending home a feed of the tracks to a client just think of a nice simple tracktion style cd burning software! that would be a real time saver.

sure but the same time think of all the coding time lost on other features within t2?

well who is saying that it will be on this edition of tracktion? what about say 3 or 4? by then we should have a lot of stuff working well on here.

I'd rather use one of the many capable products already out there. Even just Windows will burn a CD.

Windows wont handle pq values for gapless CDs though, which is I guess what guitar junkie is looking for.

I'd have to agree with you Greg in that burning a CD in another package is perfectly acceptable, especially when Tracktion lacks some of the more useful tools for gauging average amplitude for tracks, etc that something like SoundForge offers. This alone would probably cuase me to do my burning in another app even if Tracktion did offer native burn. However, in the long run, it would not hurt for Tracktion to sport features that make the entire process of burning CDs both integrated and up to the level of WaveLab or SoundForge.

would be nice, wouldn't even put it on my list of 'must have' type items, like proper time stretch, auto beat slicing, notation display/editing, group audio clips, etc.

Exactly. I can't say I'm "against" it... I'm just neither here nor there about it. I have a few commercial products just by accident (Nero that came with my portable player, Jukebox that came with...? My OEM bundle?) and lots of freeware that I am happy with as well. As far as I know, I can author CDs with Acoustica, too, though I've never tried. I have too many burning programs, really. We're spoiled for choice.

So, if it were added to Tracktion, that's all well and good... I'll just shrug and continue on with things. But there are so many other critical elements to be added to the program that this one seems pretty minor.

Can Audition burn CDs properly? ie: with full control over pq values, and audio through official track pauses etc..? Last time I looked at it it seemed no better than Acoustica's CD burning.. or Nero for that matter

Though I don't use Windows much any more, when I got the latest update to SoundForge, it included CD Architect, which burns Red Book CDs. Just another thought to add to the thread. I like having a stereo audio editor in addition to a sequencer anyway.

i use Roxio Toast with Jam and its fine but what if we had an all in one unit? what would that do for a lot of other software? what would they have left to offer? yeah midi needs work time stretching needs work i hear all this stuff could be worked out first if you ask me but... the thing is what if? i mean its one powerful program now but if it was a start and finish application. right now as it stands i have not found very many Mac audio authering programs out there. so not a lot of choice for musicians who are under a tighter budget than most but if Tracktion was "easy to use from start to finish" say you creat, you mix, you bounce you burn! how nice and easy would that be? also what if it had a feature where you could burn off a project and all its files and send it to your buddy who might mix it for you... sure you can burn off those files from your hard drive but what if it was all in one package in Tracktion that would back things up right there in one place! how nice would that be?

Hi Guitar Junkie - given that there are a million other -useful- features and, specifically, bugfixes, that need to be implemented in Tracktion, I really, really don't want this ever implemented. CD-burning is not something you just "throw in" to an application - it's a very complicated topic (ask nero) and if you can't do it well, you shouldn't do it.
At any rate theres a squillion other freeware apps out there for burning cds, and I don't have a problem with going to the taskbar and just -changing the application-.

But more to the point, I don't want Tracktion to become a bloated piece of crap with every man-and-his-dog's suggestions thrown in- and what you're asking is pretty much that- it is a lot more efficient for a singular program to be really good at doing one thing (in this case, making music) than trying to be fantastic at doing millions of things (XP)- it just doesn't work-
use a music daw for making music-
use a cd burner for burning cds-
the more specialised you get, the more efficient the program- I'm sure the developers have got enough on their minds-

And after burning. It could design and print the liner notes, shrinkwrap and setup the ecom site.

No thanks. I like me T lean and mean. And bug-free. More features = More bugs.

However, for backup porpoises, T can do what you asking by exporting a project to a CD/RW or DVD/RW disk. Assuming you ever get all the project files on a single CD or DVD. I wish.

Now if someone wrote a burning program in JUCE with the abilities of CD arch. that could be interesting.

yes that would be rather intersting. HAS to work on Mac NO MATTER WHAT! even if it does not work for the snobish windows club who cares about them any way.

Whimdows club. They're not snobs. They're just riff-raff. Best to ignore them and their multi-billion $$$ buggy software programs with the bad paintjobs.
