since i can get a great deal on guitar rig, i will probably just go with that. thanks for all the input people. this is exactly what i was looking for!
I didn't realize Waves GTR was the same price...interesting...I would want to try it out first.

But if you can get a "great" deal on Rig, then screw it. Why are we even having this conversation? ;)

I played guitar for some years.

Reading this thread I´m really astonished, what a freeware like simulanalog can do.
Just listened to the demo tracks, but...

I don't mind the dongle with waves but you cant even demo without buying one.No Sale!!

Don't forget to try Izotope Trash, which is reasonably priced and Izotope is a good company and easy to deal with. No ILok kay-rap.

Those guys are smart, and it's just a college project. Try everything in the suite. The Tube Screamer is good, there's the classic Oberheim phaser, and the Fender Twin is quite good too for clean guitar work.

Don't forget Fuzz+, and also Buzz and Octave Buzz from Buzzroom. They are all thick as gumbo and free, but I'm not sure exactly where to find the older Buzz stuff at this point. I got it recently but I don't remember the link.

I tryed many digital gutar amps and combo emulators, but guitar RIG has unique sound, and this is the only guitar effect which can give you THAT guitar sound... After I tryed it I fallen down from my chair. I did never know that it's possible to make such a good guitar fx emulation... Well, my voice to GuitarRIG. It's unique and only the thing which may be called a "guitar effect". And no my apologizes to guys who use another software... Well, guys... You have a crap if you don't have RIG.

They placed a link to their older stuff on their site.
Just found Fuzz+ Win, too.

I guess all this combined with a Roger Mayer wah
and a strat could do a quite nice sound through
some orange speakers..

Man, damn long time since I listened to my strat through a ´69 Twin Reverb.. :hihi:

Hey Dave, still watching?
I own GR1 and love it, will be receiving GR2 update next week    ...
But: i do find myself having to "freeze" the guitar tracks quite often before i'm getting to mix, because GR is not a CPU lightweight at all, even on a decent comp.

I have decided to go with Guitar Rig 2, I have Amplitube 1, I bought back in March and never use it, I thought it would at least sound as good as my J-Station...not even close.

Amplitube 1 is quite old, and as far as I can remember, it was the first real amp sim out there. So it's a bit unfair to compare it with the newer stuff. And I don't think that Amplitube 1 will be a good predictor of the sound of Amplitube 2 - I expect the latter to be *much* better, given the time they had to develop it. :hihi:

Regarding GR2: I am not really overwhelmed by the demo sounds. To my ears, it sounds pretty much like GR1 with a few additional gimmicks. I might be wrong, but I have the feeling that the basic algorithms behind most of the stuff in GR2 are taken from GR1 and enhanced in one way or another (?). Anybody out there who had the same feeling? (Hey, and don't flame me... I am not against or pro NI - actually, I own Komplete 2, so I have a lot of NI stuff which I really *do* like... but GR2 did not seem a big step to me when compared to GR1 soundwise, at least judging from the demos.)

I think the sound in the GR2 video isn't too bad - at least from what you can tell in such low quality. I totally agree on the individual snipplets, they're great to prove the experimental character but nothing special in terms of amp simulation.

I must say the idea of selling it along with a dedicated controller/audio interface is appealing to me. Connect guitar, connect USB cable to laptop, there you go, no mixers, no DI boxes, no preamps, just plug and play.
But then, IKM is going the same route with AT2...

Guitar Rig 2 hands down!!!

Rig 1 was better than the rest, and Rig 2 is so much better

The only other one I like is Nigel
