porcupine tree after yellowhedgerowdreamscape/staircase infinities,these days theyre just the same as most other "prog metallers" where as before they were only pink floyd soundalikes at least...

actually sky moves sideways was probably their last "good" album,since then a little turgid.

There are plenty of other bands that are well past their peak but still managing to put out decent stuff, or did until they gave up. I might have been tempted to write the Stranglers off until I saw tehm last year and bought their new album, its aweseome.

Closer was released after Joy Division was no more (what with the suicide and all). D_ek's statement was presumably meant with a bit of cheek.

i knew love will tear us apart was released after (or maybe not), i always thought closer was before that...i'm not a JD expert or anything....now i gotta look it up...

Your opinion. Mine is that this is untrue. From a production standpoint, sucks sounds totally outdated compared to any of their new stuff. Sucks is a pretty good song though....

I find that a pretty weird statement. Sucks is a hugely typical KMFDM song, no better or worse than dozens of others. If you said something like Anarchy, I could understand - its a great song but it is in no way a typical KMFDM song. Sucks doesn't even stand out on Angst, it fits in perfectly with everything around it. until Angst, I always thought of them as a singles band, with one or two great songs on each album and a whole lot of filler. But Angst, Nihil, WWIII and the new one are very consistent albums. Interestingly, they are also those albums where they worked more as a normal band, without too many guest artists. in fact, they even excluded Watts from the new one. I rather got the impression from teh roadies that he is very disruptive and doesn't really contribute much. But what a great voice!

Raymond Watts does have a pretty cool voice....it's kind of like his range is limited but he exploits the hell out of what range he does have. I really kind of miss him on KMFDM, I thought the song "dirty" on attak was one of the kmfdm/pig combos in a long time!

tbh I never heard of them before...

I googled for them and then downloaded one of their tracks 'last things' and I find it superb (reminds me of Rick Springfield's 'Tao' b.t.w.) - it's exactly my cup of tea right now - so I'm gonna buy some of their stuff - any recommendations? (stuff with this gorgeous female voice please...)

KMFDM recommendations??? There's too many...this band has almost consistantly released an album every year for the last 25 years!!!
Like I said in the kmfdm thread, people like them for different reasons...do you like ultra-heavy beats, metal, or a mix in between?
I got into them in like 97 and I got their Retro album which is like their singles up to 96...a semi-fair representation of kmfdm I guess...

Favourite bands that are past it??
