I don't actually use my copy of T2. But I do keep it up to date just in case I feel like some auto-flagellation. Well not entirely unused because I like FinalMix and it is useful for playing the odd ogg file. But for comping midi T2 is not doing it for me at all.

I tried but it ain't for me.

Oh Beardedone, master of the playful interval and jazzy drum programming,

I play my midi controller while T records both the right notes and the wrong notes that I played. I use the Piano Roll to erase out the wrong ones. I'd much prefer a notation editor for that task, but I realize I'm in a minority here.

My old sequencer is the $49 PowerTracks Pro Audio - and it had event list as well as notation editing. The notation editor had an interesting feature that you could turn on - velocities could be shown as a separate color flag extending out from the top of the note, while actual note lengths were another little flag extending from left to right off the flag of the note. So it was a sort of a combination between a piano roll and notation editing. Wrong notes are easiest to ID with actual notation, in my opinion. Velocity is easier to see/change, with T's type of editing - but I've never actually tried to compose by poking in the display itself - too time consuming for my tastes.

As for me also a notation editor is the only way now - Overture 4! I can now make better sense of my comps.

Hmmmm...Maybe it would be interesting if T2 let you open a MIDI clip for editing in an external program the same way you can with audio clips.....

I think you miss jplanet's point.

I believe you said that you like Tracktion's workflow, somewhere back in the thread. Well, one of the cool things that you can do in Tracktion, is utilize some other application for detailed audio editing. Many folks use Adobe Audition, launched right from inside of Tracktion, to do their audio editing.

jplanet is suggesting a similar feature with MIDI clips - allow one to launch some other midi editor from directly within Tracktion.

I don't find Tracktion awkward at all - except for piano roll editing - which I just don't like no matter what the application is. I also wish it had time-stretch/beat mapping, but other than that, I've been much more productive with it than I have with other sequencers in the past.

Yeah I like the concept but in execution this concept has not proven itself to me. I was hoping Tracktion would be productive for me but so far I have not been able to push any project beyond the nascent stages. I am frankly very frustrated with it.

No worries Gordon,

At least you make some fine music with other tools.

This just goes to show that there isn't a one-size-fits-all music package, or platform for that matter.

For me, the workflow in Tracktion is natural. I have tried to show it in person to others and their eyes glaze over - these folks are bright, capable, home recordists, and it just doesn't 'work' for them.

Keep cranking out the good stuff. I don't care what tools you use to do it.

It really wouldn't take a great deal of work to have the Tracktion piano roll come on a bit ...

I mean: a full screen, easier moving of the area your working in by say a mouse click and 360 degree movement and a decent expand/contract zoom in/out both in the piano-roll and tha main page (I know it's there - but it need's refining).

I find it hard to understand that given the amount of people that say THIS IS what keep's them away from using Tracktion, that something isn't done about it?

I will also keep upgrading in the hope that one day the issue of midi composing is addressed.
