* OMF Import/Export
* Audio render/Non realtime plugins (gain/normalize/reverse/etc)
* Better clip crossfade visuabillity. mark X as in Protools/Nuendo
* Audio tracks auto numbering, like Track1= "1. trackname" for better visuabillity in controllers without track lcd.
* VST as track input/record devices
* More key shortcuts.
* Option to hide lower end control bar as well
* Automation pen tool
* Automation select tool
* Automation read/write for each parameter
* Automation latch mode?
* Automation track for tempo
* Option(!!) to move/copy automation with clip
Feel free to add or distract from this list..

I like non-destructive better, which can already be done for gain (use the gain slider!) and normalize sort of (manually, but that's OK... raise the gain slider until the waveform almost touches the edge of the clip at its loudest spot).* Audio render/Non realtime plugins (gain/normalize/reverse/etc)
Reverse could be cool, though.
What could be easier than the envelopes that are already displayed on overlapping clips? They make an "x"! I hate the Cubase Way.* Better clip crossfade visuabillity. mark X as in Protools/Nuendo
Aren't tracks already automatically numbered? Maybe I just don't understand the feature request.* Audio tracks auto numbering, like Track1= "1. trackname" for better visuabillity in controllers without track lcd.
Cool.* VST as track input/record devices
Always a good thing, though you'd have to come up with some specific ones not already covered to win most people over.* More key shortcuts.
YES!* Option to hide lower end control bar as well
Yup* Automation pen tool
Not sure what you mean. You can already select automation...?* Automation select tool
This would get very fiddly very quickly. I can see how it would be useful, but I can also see how it could turn into a mess. BUT, I wouldn't have to use it I guess, if I didn't want to.* Automation read/write for each parameter
Like locking automation to clips? That'd be great.* Automation latch mode?
It's already sort of there... it just needs to be refined.* Automation track for tempo
Indeed!* Option(!!) to move/copy automation with clip

the "non-realtime plugins" can already be applied to an audio file, but only for the whole file. if you go to the file properties page when you have a clip selected, there are some basic operations (normalise, reverse, trim silence, etc) you can perform on it. if you need to do these to a separate copy, you can either create a copy there and process the new file in the properties page, or you can export that section (markers around the section, export selected clips only and only within markers), then process the resultant file.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Audio Universal for laying out audio and midi clips with fades etc. Used alot between Final Cut etc to Protools and Nuendo.zOap wrote:

Embarassed I don't know what that is.
I know of the GAIN slider:) But when I get a project in house the first thing I do is to normalize all tracks/clips so I don't have to automate myself to death. This is vital and every sound designer working with film/TV would know what I'm talking about.Quote:

Tracks are not visually numbered no, only if you descide to not alter the name, but then youd have to alter the number too. This would be very nice if your controller have no lcd. Then you can just take a quick peak at the track, put the number in your mind hardware thingy and go to the corresponding channel on your controller, easy and very nice, if it's there. A pain if it's not.Quote:

I mean to select more than one automation point at a time without having to use shift. Like a graphic select tool. Nice when you need to delete many points at a time.Quote:

True, but still very nice to have the option. As you say, you don't have to use it.Quote:

No. latch/touch means that you only perform the the edits you need when you don't move your slider whatever the exsisting automation is not touched, and you don't have to do all automation all over just because of one error...Quote:
* Automation latch mode?
Like locking automation to clips? That'd be great.
When you're working on projects which are big, like an hour tv show, this is really messy. When zooming out real big the fade between the clips are not really visible and confusion tend top appear. The x is very visible and there is no confusion. Allthough you hate the "cubase way" as you call it, allthough most sequencers have it, maybe some other people won't.Quote:

Oh, and making crossfades with the "X" is much faster than the Tracktion way. It then uses the handles at hand and you don't have to drag the clip. When you work with this all day, you get pretty fed up with this. I make about a thousand crossfades each day, every day all year. This is my job, take my word for it, the x is better.

i make zillions of crossfades all the time, and i couldn't be happier with any xfade system. especially because you don't always want even fades. why should i take your word for it
? there is an autocrossfade button if you need it.

Have you tried protools xfade? you don't have to make them even. You make them how you want them. But the fact that the clips overlap eachother instead of x between them is confusing, and I think it's visually better with the x.haydxn wrote:i make zillions of crossfades all the time, and i couldn't be happier with any xfade system. especially because you don't always want even fades. why should i take your word for it? there is an autocrossfade button if you need it.
I don't know how you could make a zillion xfades, maybe you were joking, I'm not. xfading is my job. I sit at work all day and make xfades, sawing together movies/tv shows before they go to mix.
I'm not saying I'm right, but I am:O
Oh, have you ever worked with OMF files? They don't overlap eachother wich in Tracktion the clips would have to if you want the auto xfade. Should I sit with an hour tv shows and drag all clips over eachother and then click the auto xfade button? There goes half my day...

Normalising doesn't acheive equal loudness between clips, unless you use RMS levels.zOap wrote:

Plus, if a whole audio clip is the wrong volume you can adjust just that clip, no need for automation at all..

Apparently we've forgotten that z0ap is the only person who's a "real" DAW user.
It's not like you don't have a point, z0ap, it's simply that you didn't communicate it effectively. What you meant to say is that you want a better way to do crossfades of audio on 2 different tracks. That, I agree with. I'm sure that there's an even better way of doing it, but I'd be happy with the "protools" way right now.
What I'm NOT a fan of is the way Cubase handles cross-fades within the SAME track. Tracktion's way is much more elegant and visually effective.
I'm still confused about what you want to do with the latch... again, probably just a case of unclear communication. Your request may be just as reasonable as the crossfade request after all.
As for the GAIN, I think your approach to normalization is interesting, and if it works for you, great. However, using the gain slider is quick and easy. Normalizing all your files at once doesn't really gain you anything, since tracks are still adjusted for levels in relation to one another. It'd be a miracle assignment in which by normalizing all your tracks, they ended up at exactly the right levels. So.... add gain on a per-track basis, or cut gain on a per-track basis. It's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. (ie, the same thing).

well, obviously i'm joking if i expect zillion to be an actual number, and if i thought someone might believe i have actually performed 1 zillion crossfades. but as it goes i do make an obscene number of crossfades whenever i make music, because i use very small clips arranged like a collage. the fact that clips can overlap is absolutely essential for me, and the way crossfades work is exactly how i need them.
you may be right, but you may also be better off using something that does what you want? of course, if the crossfade system can have added the feature you want without breaking it for everyone else, then i'm all for new stuff. but i'm at least as right as you :p

HI
Same old FR:
A FULL screen Piano-Roll (not the partial one that is currently perhaps 50% of the screen).
A key command to open it.
Hold right mouse button to move the piano-roll window around 360 degrees - for quicker navigation.
OR
If that all seem's like too much work - expanding/contacting the current piano-roll needs to be re-jigged as it is a pretty tacky implimentation at the moment, read: doesn't 'feel' at all consistent in operation.
Flipper.
So close yet so far: my new tag when posting in the RAW forum!

Hehe, frustration and access to a keyboard is never the solution..Apparently we've forgotten that z0ap is the only person who's a "real" DAW user. Wink
I might be explaining myself in a poorly manner, It's crystal clear in my head though, why can't my fingers type it out as nice??:( puuh
I agree that the gain slider is nice, I also agree that using individual gain on clips is a workaround and a nice feature. But still, one of the first things I do is get rid of noise, to minimize noise I gain/normalise the tracks/clips(with peak detection and rms detection) This gives me an overall volume which is nice to work with. Then, and only then, I feel that I have enough information about the clips to remove the noisy frequences. This also gives me the opprtunity to have compressors work evenly over the track/clips, which is vital. This also gives me the opportunity to have gates working nicely without having to work to hard for it.. Atleast where I come from, audio is a lowpayed department with less and less time to get the desired result. Just to be clear, I work with movies and tv shows, music is my hobby. And I don't know how things work at other places in the world..
I am also aware of that people have learned to work in different ways, I'm not saying that my way is the right way, but for me it is. My way or the high way, um yaknow.

did you miss the bit about having offline processes for audio files already?
plug plugins per clip is already there... or are you joking?

FYI destructive normalise technically increases your noise level. Probably not an issue for 24-bit files, but it might be significant for 16-bit.
This is not an issue if you use the clip's gain control.. <edit> you do realise it won't 'clip' if you turn it too high? Not if you have some headroom in your master section anyway..
