I've been opening up some old, unfinished projects lately. One of them, as it was opening, told me that there was a special hidden mystery newer version of the edit that it had found and did I want to open that one instead? Of course I did. Newer is better, right?

Wrong.

The newer version of that edit had absolutely nothing in it. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So I figured I could just go back to the original, right?

Wrong again.

The edit that included an actual song seems to be gone forever now. The shiny new one is the only one. And it makes me wanna #@$^ing weep every time I open it and see how empty it is. Well, either weep or smash things to pieces.

Please please please please please please rewrite this feature to be non-distructive. Or if it is non-destructive, please tell me how I can get my song back.

ok

did you do that tune in its own folder?

if yes then you can import everything from that folder & the old edit will be there with a name like edit47975678756535 or somthing just as mad

if there are a few tracks in the same folder as the track your havingf problems with then you will have to siff through more files

good luck

Hmm... the folder has 5 tracktion edit files and so does the project. Each edit in the project list corresponds exactly with an edit file, so there are no extra edit files that I can see. I have no idea where Tracktion was finding the extra edit, so the original has either been overwritten, was never there in the first place or is now in the same mystery universe that the secret file came from.

So it's not the actual audio information you lament the loss of, but the hard work put into arranging, correct?

Still sucks... hard....

Wish you could somehow preview both when you got to choose.

Maybe if Jules adds a photo of Monty Hall on the dialog box then we'd know that not only do we not get to preview the choices, but choosing one means that we can't ever get the other.

Oh and correct: the arrangement is gone and all the audio clips are orphaned.

I've had this presented to myself on occasion. Usually after a wonky plug has caused a horrendous crash. So far I've always elected to reopen the saved version and not the temp 'cause I'm just never sure what state the edit was in when it got saved (I do a lot of experimenting that I don't even want saved). Looks like a good idea (for me at least) to continue this trend.

Missing edit? That sucks! Sorry to hear about that.
