Is there a way to start recording (trigggering) with the first note you play on a midi keyboard?

Not that I know of. Or at least, not natively and with simplicity.

In what situation are you imagining using this? I'm not saying it wouldn't be useful, just getting a bead on what specifically you'd like to see as a feature.

I'm moving the drum patterns (arps) from the Motif to Traction. I make small 4-bars clips just too transfer the drum patterns into the sequencer. The easy way would be to start the recording the moment i press a single note on the keyboard, release at 4 bars and delete the remaining trail from the clip. Now i also have to delete a small area at the start of the clip because i press the note after i press start button at the tracktion.

OK, I see now. No, unfortunately Tracktion won't be able to do it any better than it's already doing. Here's an alternative, though:

Set your markers ("I" on the keyboard for "in" and "O" for "out") and then when you export to a MIDI file, export "selected region only", which will automatically 'trim' your MIDI file each time.

well T's inputs have a threshold which means that it doesn't actually record until the input level has reached that value. not sure if that's any help?

Mayby thats the case for Audio. I dont know, i dont rec audio. In Midi the clip starts before you actualy start playing the keyboard.

ooh sorry when you said keyboard i assumed you were transfering the audio sounds from it ( i think it was the comment about the trail that did it), sorry your meaning was quite obvious and i missed it!
