No you're not... There are lots of Roth fans out there. I hated VanHaggar, I though it screwed up two really good bands but time passed and.... Well I still think it screwed up two good bands..

I liked Dave as a singer and he was fun to watch (ego and all), however the one and only time I got to see him sing live it was not good.

I can't listen to Haggar Vanhalen. I think he is terrible.
At least with Roth I could listen and enjoy Eddie and the band.

Saw him on the Scyscraper Tour (I think it was). He did very good, so did the band. Well duh. IIRC he had Steve Vai with him, sleep tight Van Halen. They did the usual old Van Halen (Ice Cream Man, You Really Got Me etc), they all kicked ass. KB Hallen was much too small for Roth's ego though, but that was to be expected

Steve Perry is a huge favorite of mine too. I liked Uli Roth era Scorps a bit better, but it's all good!

Xander, I agree about VH with DLR being WAY better. They didn't suck with Sammy, but became a totally different band. Sort of a VH lite (half the calories and less than half the attitude!)

You're wrong about Whitney Houston. I was a stage hand when she played Oslo in 1992 or so, (when that awful always love you song was number one everywhere), and she could NOT sing. Period. I was thinking "all right, this is going to be horrible, but at least she can sing", but I was wrong. She couldn't. It was embarrassing. I blushed on her behalf. And I hated her in the first place.

Sting sings good live. And Emma Kirkby.

Well, I guess they never actually sucked with Sammy, but I honestly believe that you are a much better vocalist than Sammy ever was.

I listened to them intently when he joined the band, and I thought *some* of his nuances/inflections were interesting, but he'd then jump into 'scream mode' and made me wanna hurl. I mean, it's impressive to be able to belt 80 plus DB out of your throat but it added nada to Van Halen, who I always had a lot of respect for -- not only as a guitar player, but also as a rather novel composer & very tight act.

In comparison, I have always LOVED Steve Perry because his voice was a natural tenor with much less throat-choke than most of the 80's crooners.

Oh, I didn't know that. I never saw her live in person, but I saw a few live show she did on TV and she sounded fantastic. Maybe it is me...
