Volume/Pan filter automation bug

This may have been reported, but it's becoming really annoying:

All my older files load up with automated volume filters, even though I've never automated them. And this is particularly annoying with the (I believe to be stupid) Tracktion implementation of automation that won't allow the overall level to be changed with the filter (it should override the automation,or at least have the option to do so).

Is there any easier solution than what I've been doing - deleting and replacing each volume/pan filter?

i guess that's easier than selecting all the automation and deleting one at a time.

however, in response to your query about changing the overall level when automation is there, that is nothing stupid at all. if it's being automated, the levels are set on the track. what you do is simple - just add another vol/pan filter to the track, and change the level on that.

They shouldn't be.

There was a bug discovered, and fixed for the last version, where automation curves were incorrectly created when using the cut marked region and close gap option. In this case the first automation curve point would be located before the start of the edit, making it impossible to delete.

Is this the case for you? Otherwise, automation curves are getting into your edit in some other manner (be that bug or user error, it would be useful to find out).

Two solutions:

one : place another vol pan after the first one, which will act as a master level. The first vol control will then act as a scaled level control (rather useful).

two : when the automation curve is selected by clicking on a point, there are options in the properties panel to scale and shift the curve around.

You should be able to use the delete all points from curve option when the curve is selected, rather than deleting the filter it applies to (unless you are subject to the bug described above).

I can see how people coming from a traditional sequencer would think it's stupid; it's not all that intuitive (at first) to think of having multiple gain settings. Once you realize that you can do it, I think it makes more sense than the traditional one-volume-slider-per-track approach.

Those traditionalists are so missing out. You can put 11 volume sliders on one track and then turn them all to 11!!! Who is winning the volume wars now!

The extra volume filter is probably the best solution (even though it will crowd an already crowded screen area).
Deleting all points from the curve doesn't solve the problem, so I must be subject to the bug.
(Perhaps I did some edits on the form of the affected songs in the past.)
Many automation implementations (notably the ones on consoles) will override automation when faders are used. That would be the best way, in my estimation.

I had the automation-appearing bug, too. Damned annoying, it was. Not sure if the recently-fixed issue also fixes imported archives.

it takes a little bit to get used to that stuff i must say that. i at least had used some stuff like that in garage band though before tracktion got here. i am wishing that i had more time to really work harder with T2 to get the most out of this awesome software. i do think this is the next wave of cooledit pro like software that is going to be under rated by the big guys ahd love by the little ones.
