Here is one I forgot about, but she has the most amazing vocals on stage. In fact the picth is so perfect that I suspect some auto-tuning happening here:

-Sarah Mclachlan!

She never is off pitch and the notes transition reminds me a lot of autotune. It is almost inhuman how perfect her singing is.

Some interesting answers here...

Bowie - definitely. Talked to his guitar tech, and he said Bowie uses some foot pedals, including volume pedal, to great effect live.

Sarah Mclachlan - probably the closest to perfection I've heard in a female singer.

Sting - can still bloody well sing!

Bono - not so convinced about this one, although I'm a big fan - I think his voice (either live OR studio) is pretty careworn these days, unfortunately. I still love it, though!

Thom York - without question, he's phenomenal. He's one of those singers who people either love or hate, but even the haters would acknowledge his musicality, I reckon...

Jeff Buckley - even though he's not my favourite, he sang with passion which is almost unequalled at this point in history, IMO.

Colin Hay - one of the great voices of all time.

Neil Finn - my personal number 1 (and hero) - sounds better live, and sounds perfect recorded... he has an English (even though he's a Kiwi) melancholy in his voice which sucks me right in. COULDN'T BELIEVE how amazing he was live - left poor old Tim for dead, both as a muso and as a singer.

Ian Gillan had an octaver to help him with the aaaaaah's on Child in Time, but it still sounded pretty good.

Whitney cracked on every attempt at the 'IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII will always love you's. Really. I was quite surprised. Even the simple ones like 'How will I know' sounded like a drunken tribute act.

Ergo, she was drunk. Surely you've heard her on awards shows etc? When sober, she is an amazing singer... and this is coming from someone who, quite frankly, can't stand her.

I watched "Angel" (http://media.bmgonline.com/jrecords.com ... OW_300.asx) two times now, and I pickup autotune alteration on some notes. This happens when she sais: "fly away from here". Maybe I am just hallicunating. She seems to sing a straight pitch, but the song "detunes"..I am not sur how to explain it. If it is NOT tuned somehow, than I swear, she must not be human.

No way, mate - you're hearing a "lilt", which is like "mini-yodelling" - she is NOT autotuned.
